Default Do people Smile Anymore?

Minnesota, MInnesota, MInnesota?! Cheer up be polite, say Hi to strangers and hold your head up. Life can't be that hard to stare at the ground all the time. I just want to know, do people generally feel like they can't say hello or that they shouldn't? I think if you don't want to speak at least smile Minnesota.

Default People do Smile

lovinmyhair,
I don't know what you are talking about. I'm currently visiting the Twin Cities for only the 2nd time and people are more than nice and freindly. Walking around St. Anthony Falls, at the Twins game, the hotel, and at the universities, everyone has been extremely friendly and happy looking. We had a 30 minute conversation with someone after THEY said hi whlie in line in a bagel shop. Coming from the south, I can honestly say tat this may be the nicest (people) of any I have been in. Go to a city in the south and people are not as friendly (outside of the city is another story).

So I should just smile because it makes you feel better? Give me a break. This winter was killer on my spirit and it took me a long time to find a decent job. If you see me smiling it will be because my paycheck was fat and not because it is the "nice" thing to do.

Wait until that odd part of the year when the winter is finally over and the summer humidity has yet to settle in. Then, for a brief two weeks, you'll see people smiling. Minnesota weather, gotta love it.

Thanks, I would love to feel that MN hospitality that I have heard so much about. I wonder if it's because I am a black women, tall and slender yet built nicely that makes cold stares and mean looking mugs?

No Boo, don't do it for me do it because you want to. I'm sorry that you have had alittle rain in your life but, you've got to believe that the sun will shine on you, sooner than later. For me it seems as soon as I turn my trobles over to god and wash my hands of the worry, the stress and the low self esteem, The rain subsides and the sun shines again. Keep your head up regardless of any stuggle-stay stong and have faith in good things happening to you beacause they can and they will-when you least expect it.

I should go where you have been. Maybe I just went to the wrong place at the wrong time. Please advise me to a place?

Minnesota people are nice in my opinion. 'Course, I am a Minnesotan. And just because someone doesn't smile, doesn't mean they aren't happy or nice. Say hi and smile at them, I'm sure they'll smile back.

Is there anyplace where people smile ALL the time? I think people hear this "Minnesota nice" thing and expect every single person they cross paths with to smile at them and say hi. It's just like any other place. People have bad days. Some people just want to be left alone. Others simply can't stand smalltalk. I can pretty much guarantee you though that if YOU take the initiative to smile at somebody, you will at least get a smile in return. I, for one, happen to be fairly private, so I just want to get where I'm going without being bothered or expected to be Mr. Sunshine all the time. Does this make me unfriendly? I hope not, but I can see how people would think so.

Just saying!!!

Brian.

Minneapolis isn't the same as the rest of Minnesota. Were a city not no damned rural small ass hick town. We don't smile, we just keep to ourselves and keep a chip on our shoulder. Keep that sunshine **** the **** outta the Minneapolis section.
