Mr. Jim Stokes, What are you smoking?
Uptown is one of the most diverse, artsy, interesting, secure, (we've got something for everyone) neighborhoods in the TC. And your accusation of Slig being a "flamer" just illustrates the kind of closeminded, backwoods attitude no one wants here.
In response to the initial poster: Just stay away from the N.E. and you'll not only be fine, you will love the TC as much as most, with the exception of a few(Mr. Jim Stokes)

Stay away from Northeast? You may be the one smoking something, unless your sense of direction is off.

You're right Bagira. I'm sure people by now are REALLY getting sick of hearing me expound upon how great Victory neighborhod is (and for that I apologize), but we can't get over it and I can't believe more people don't know about this neighborhood. We had the choice when househunting of parcelling off a section of family land in an idyllic suburban/ exurban setting to build a house on but we didn't think we were ready for that kind of commute (40+ minutes) - we both work in downtown or adjacent to downtown. As twentysomethings, fairly established in our careers, but with some big student loan debt, etc., our options were fairly limited - there's not a lot of reasonably priced homes in Mpls and surrounding suburbs and we couldn't afford a mortgage that was going to be $250K or above at that time. My fiancee is from a small town environment so she was a little hesitant about Camden/ living in the City, but she loves this neighborhood as much if not more than I do and has found that it almost feels like its own small town around here (but with the conveniences of the city). At this point we don't plan to leave anytime soon, we're actually planning to continue to renovate/ add an addition in the near future. Our neighbors are great, in general younger professionals or older people that have lived here many years (which is good for neighborhood watch!)

Im a pretty big supporter of the Victory neighborhood as well. I eat a lot at Rix and I try to shop at businesses in that region. As of right now I rent, and I cant see myself buying a property anytime soon. My only complaint about Victory is the lack of rentals. Camden there are plenty available, I know...but with how affordable houses are in that neighborhood its almost silly to rent when you could own cheaper. Its probably one of the only fairly desirable regions of the city where thats still plausable.
If I was going to buy, I probably would in Webber-Camden somewhere near the cemetery or along 44th Ave North nearing Victory.

It seems as though Uptown has two sides. On one is the shopping/entertainment and on the other the residents of the neighborhood. When I lived in Uptown I got the perspective that a majority of those that live in Uptown are generally middle-class people over 35 who would rather tend to their gardens then anything.

I guess whats unappealing to me about uptown is the enormous amount of traffic in the area. Exiting to Lyndale or Hennepin near the Walker on a Saturday night is torture.

Frustrating, sure. But if there wasn't traffic it would be even worse. It would be Omaha on a Sunday. That is a problem with the Mpls. transit system at large, not Uptown.

the exit ramps there are pretty horrible. Hennepin/Lyndale when leaving uptown heading north/downtown is frustrating with its whole "guess which lane you have to go into" layout that 80% of drivers cant ever seem to comprehend.

I respect your comments but disagree Minneahahapolitan. One thing I hated about living in Uptown was the traffic and overall lack of parking anywhere (commercial or residential). I would get off at my exit everyday, and then commence to spending 20 minutes driving the approximate 12 blocks or so to get to my street. Then I would spend an average of 5 minutes just finding a place to park that usually ended up being about 2-3 blocks away from my apartment.
