Default Moving to twin cities area

Hi there,

I am planning on moving to the area from Boston. My office will be on technology drive in Eden Prairie.

I was wondering what would be a good area to live. I'm in my twenties and don't know anyone there so want to live somewhere close to the city and where it wouldn't be a bad commute to work.

How is the Lakes/Uptown region? I am looking for a one bedroom with underground parking and security. Any suggestions on buildings/ companies to contact. I have found some buildings that look nice but then I find bad reviews about the management etc...

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

The Uptown area is great, the commute is tolerable. Most of the places with underground parking will be newer (and more expensive). If by security you mean a paid security man, only a handful of buildings in the Cities have them.
Saint Louis Park (esp. along Excelsior Blvd.) cuts on your commute and has alot of newer buildings and a surprising nember of young people. It is also a little more suburban.

Thanks. I read about the Excelsior Grand on Excelsior Blvd. Seems like a nice place, but lot of complaints with the management when they were moving out.

Excelsior on Grand is nice, brand new and convenient to most things. I can't speak for the management either way -- that's your homework.

Thanks for your reply. I think I would be moving to the area for Sept 1. If you know of any other good apartments in the area, please let me know.

Thanks!

Craigslist is a good resource for apartment hunting. My favorite part about it is with the google map option you can pinpoint where each apartment is located. This will help you find an apartment in the specific area you're looking to live.

Have you thought of renting a condo? There are a lot available now with the whole housing crisis. Most condos will be more secure and most likely have underground/secure parking as well. I've never done this so I can't vouch for any management issues, but I was leaning towards a condo before we bought a house. This is the site I used when both looking at condos to buy or rent : Search Minneapolis Rentals

Hope it helps. They have a pretty wide range of prices and amenities, so I hope you could find something you like.

Default downtown

I lived in downtown whne I worked in Eden Prairie. The comute is against traffic. Most fun area for you. Plenty of condos for rent in the area as well. Check out craigs list for details on condos

If you're working on Technology drive you have condos and townhouses everywhere you look. I haven't looked seriously in that area in my own job hunt but there's a lot of good stuff right around you.

If you go for a downtown Minneapolis condo you're facing stop and go traffic on 394, at least on the way home.

Hi!

Linden Hills is smack dab between where you're working and downtown. The area is actually walking distance to Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet. It's an incredibly sought after location. There are walking trails, cool restaurants and hip bars all over. It's quiet and convenient. True, you could have some traffic heading out to Edina but there are LOTS of side roads that will take you there within 20 minutes. Check out apartment rentals in Linden Hills.

Finally, as an agent here in Mpls, there are LOTS of really GOOD condos for sale for little money in Uptown. They over developed in the area and they are letting them go for a steal. They are secured buildings - very trendy and hip. Let me know if you'd like anymore info.

Thanks and welcome to Mpls!
Sarah
