We've lived in the Daytons Bluff neighborhood of St. Paul for almost 25 years.
This area was originally home to many professional people, business people etc. Many of the homes were built in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

We purchased our wonderful Craftsman Style house in Dayton's Bluff in 1984. The house was built in 1912 and features all of the wonderful details of so many homes of that era: dark oak woodwork, a beautiful fireplace. leaded glass and stained glass windows and more.

However, as is the case with so many of these wonderful old homes, it needed a lot of loving care and renovation to bring it back to what it once was.

Not all of these old homes---Victorian homes---Craftsman style bungalows, etc. have been as well cared for. And with the economic downturn, many houses in the neighborhood are in foreclosure.

I'm sharing all this to say that, if you are looking for a home in the Twin Cities, there are some real bargains right now on the "they don't build them like that anymore" type of homes. With some investment of time you could have a house you would never be able to build "nowadays." And you could help save one of Minnesota's historic neighborhoods.

To me, Daytons Bluff is the area between Mounds Boulevard on the west, Swede Hollow Park and then East 7th Street on the north, either Earl Street or Johnson Parkway on the east, and either I-94 or the bluff itself on the south (depending on whether you consider Mounds Park to be a separate neighborhood). I don't know whether any "official" neighborhood boundaries exist. All of this is within the 55106 zip code; however, that zip code encompasses far more of the greater East Side than this one sub-neighborhood.

Architecturally speaking, Daytons Bluff is one of my favorite Saint Paul neighborhoods!

Yep, those are pretty much the boudaries as we generally reckon them. Here is a page that include more info about Daytons Bluff and lots of photos of homes here:
