Question Where Will I Live U of M?

I might transfer to the U of M next year and need to find a place to live off campus since transfer students are not guaranteed housing. What areas do most students live in. Also, I will be having classes in St. Paul and Minneapolis so is there a neighborhood in between the two campuses that would be convenient for the my needs. Lastly, I do not like alot of noise and I do not want roommates so an area with efficiencies would be great. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Also, should I bring my car with me or not?

I lived in Dinkytown (just off campus). A car is not required but certainly helps

If you have to get to Saint Paul, stay on the east side of the river. Dinkytown and Marcy-Holmes is convenient. Most of the newer buildings don't have straight studios. There is stuff further down University also. Housing off-campus is hard to find near Saint Paul.
You can manage without a car; but having one is more convenient.

If you enjoy any sense of independence I would bring your car. Public transport is an ideal option when it comes to commuting to and from the U, but otherwise it will eventually become a burden when you want to meet up with friends or go find jobs, etc. Dinkytown is where most students live, but if you want quiet, personal living space, look around anywhere between the mpls and st. paul campuses.

There was a pretty extensive thread on this just a couple weeks ago, and this is always a perennial question. Search and ye shall find so they say.
