xz2y. in my opinion, Minneapolis is just a much larger Ann Arbor. I have been to Ann Arbor many times. And it reminds me a lot of Minneapolis. The crime is not nearly as bad as people are making it sound. It is worse than Ann Arbor however, but most places are. If you were to compare it to a city in Michigan like Flint, Pontiac, Saginaw, or Detroit, not to mention many others, you will find Minneapolis very safe. I just moved here from Michigan this past summer, and I cannot believe the difference. I live in uptown which is just South of downtown and I love it.

Yes, statistically Minneapolis has above average crime. However, if you do a crime breakdown in the city, the crime is very concentrated in a few areas. If you avoid those areas crime won't be a factor for you...and despite what some people have said on this forum, uptown is NOT one of those unsafe areas. Research and word on the street (from the 3 out of 10 intelligent individuals) will support that.

Murder #3:

26th and Emerson so that makes 2 murders for the northside, 1 for southside in powderhorn and a grand total of ZERO in uptown thusfar. I will continue to keep a tally as the year progresses.

No offense, but that sounds a bit ridiculous.
The crime in the MPLS-STPL suburbs are actually lower than most U.S. suburbs. Unless you are in Brooklyn Center, you have it pretty good. Also, by moving you would sacrifice giving your daughter the exceptionally high education we offer in Minnesota. You must take that into consideration. Definately visit TN before you move there. It my end up just being a bunch of TN-T! (Just Kidding) But really DO visit before you settle. Everybody says they hate Minnesota, but then move, and want to go back because they realize how great it was. Oh, but if you have close family in TN, I definately understand. It is great to move back to your family.

I'd rather be in Brooklyn Center than 90% of the state. Once again, not that bad of a suburb.

wow. it's strange to actually see how many people are getting murdered with Slig keeping tabs like that. but, are the people who are being murdered just random victims- do they know the people who are murdering them? i don't know, i feel pretty safe downtown & i'm a 19 year old girl.

Granted, i've had plenty of times where the i've been around some shifty people that make me uneasy, but generally i feel safe.

Once again, a negative externality of the Zane corridor installment of low-income apartments. This city is already going to begin razing the buildings one by one and in a few years the city will be as safe as any other Minneapolis suburb.
