That aside, their technicians do an excellent job and the communication is generally very good.

Great Brakes Auto Repair in prospect park on University, by Bedford/Malcolm. He does a great job, and doesn't guilt you into extraneous stuff.

I've had good luck at Dunn-Rite on 44th Street near Abbott or Beard in Linden Hills. Compared to quotes from the dealer or Firestone, their prices are less expensive and they provide good service.

I'm a good mechanic. I'm honest, and I think $60 an hour is better than $85 an hour. I've had repeat business and word of mouth referrals, but I've never had anyone come back many, many times... spending thousands of dollars. I fix it right the first time. And I do house calls.

If is convenient i would recommend Brian @ Hopkin's Auto on Main St near the KFC. I think is off of 17th. Very fair, sometimes I've even gone to Him for very small stuff and if He has the time he will take me right in, fix and only charge me for the fuse or whatever the part was. Of course i always make sure to go to Him for the big stuff as well, like brakes. It's a fair trade.

My long lost mechanic of choice went out of business a few years back, then the new one I started going to lost his lease and moved to the suburbs. Since then I've been going to Lloyd's on Grand Ave. Very happy with them. They are very professional and will give you lower cost alternatives to big ticket repairs.

I second this! haven't had to deal with BS in 10 yrs, car traded in once warranty expires. There are new cars which won't cost you more than $200 for month.

Like I said, I make house calls. Sometimes I can diagnose the problem without coming out and tell you how to fix it easily without paying for repairs. Email me with the year, make and model of your vehicle as well as your location. Describe the problem and I'll get back to you. jeremy@jacllp.com

I've always driven older cars and am a very loyal customer of Nghia's Auto Service just a few blocks away from us in the Victory neighborhood (across the street from Papa's Restaurant & Deli), and my wife uses him to perform regular maintenance on her much newer car. Nghia is an ACE certified mechanic and his shop is always busy with customers from around the metro. Oftentimes I'll drop my car off during the day for a fairly significant fix and he'll call me at 8 or 9pm that night to tell me I can come pick it up, and his prices are very reasonable. Good reviews on his google maps listing:
