Default Friday Traffic on 35W

How is traffic around Mpls 35W Bridge on Friday afternoon going north? Google Map is taking me through SE 10th Ave at Exit 17B until 21A to get back on 35W. Since I'm visiting TC from out of state, I would appreciate reading the local commuters' experience. Is there a better route? Thanks!

What time, and from where to where?

I'm not sure what exact exits and entrances those are, but I would avoid the 10th Ave bridge area between 3:30 and 6:30 PM if possible.

Traffic restrictions, lane closures begin June 8 on Highway 36, Interstate 35W as resurfacing, repair project continues

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Beginning at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 8, motorists will find lane restrictions on north and southbound Interstate 35W between Stinson Boulevard in Minneapolis and Ramsey County Road C in Roseville for pavement and bridge repair. The lane restrictions will last until mid-August.

At the same time, the ramps from southbound Cleveland Avenue to eastbound Highway 36, northbound Cleveland Ave. to southbound I-35W and from northbound Cleveland Ave. to eastbound Highway 36 will close for repairs. During the closures, motorists will follow a signed detour until mid-July.

An extensive resurfacing and repair project began Monday, June 2, on Highway 36 between I-35W in Minneapolis and Edgerton Street in Roseville, and on I-35W between Stinson Boulevard in Minneapolis and Ramsey County Road C in Roseville.

This year’s project on I-35W and Highway 36 includes resurfacing and concrete rehabilitation, bridge repairs, guardrail replacement, drainage improvements and construction of a bus-only shoulder on east and westbound Highway 36 between Edgerton Street and Rice Street.

Motorists will encounter delays during ramp closures and daytime lane closures along with nighttime and weekend full closures of Highway 36 between I-35W and Edgerton Street.

During the closures, motorists should follow signed detours. A work zone speed limit of 40 m.p.h. is in effect while workers are present. The State Patrol will provide extra law enforcement throughout the construction zone.

Thank you so much for the detailed info. I'd better avoid 35W. What would be the best route going to Bethel Univ., Roseville from Bloomington (3900 American Blvd. West) on Friday 4:30pm then?

Hmm...that's going to be a tough one. You're crossing the heart of the metro at perhaps the busiest time. The big question is: would you rather travel city streets with stop lights or be on the freeway with stop-and-go? Time-wise, it probably won't make a lot of difference.

Well, it doesn't matter to me since I don't know the city at all.
I guess whichever route with less congestion would be better if there is such a thing. How long would it take? Should I assume Google Maps' estimate of 35 min is too optimistic around 4:30pm on Friday?

What if I take MN-100 to I-694? Are they busy also?

It will definitely take you longer than 35 minutes. You could try I-35E to east 36, then north on Snelling.

MN-100 to I-694 will also be very busy. EB 694 is bumper-to-bumper in the afternoon.
