Default Activities on Fouth of July

This being my first 4th in MN, not sure of what good activities there are to do. Personally, I want to know where the best fireworks show is. Any suggestions will be helpful!

Default Can't guarantee which will be the best...

We are heading to the Eagan festivities with some friends who have gone before and really enjoyed it. This will be our first time there, so I'm not sure what to expect.
Eagan July 4th Funfest Home

I recently heard Apple Valley goes all out and it is supposed to be really exciting.

Richfield is celebrating their 100th anniversary so they're rumored to be doing something huge this year.
Richfield Hometown 4th of July

Anyhow, like I wrote in my heading, I have no idea who hosts the best fireworks show. Fireworks are kinda boring for me (what's the point?)...lol...but for whatever reason <~probably our kids (unless we're out of town) we do the parade/carnival/fireworks thing every year. Having said that I believe most suburbs host some sort of fireworks display.

Also, check out the Taste of Minnesota! Welcome to A Taste of Minnesota 2008

The biggest 4th of July parties I've seen in Minnesota were all in Detroit Lakes. Hoards of people from all over greater Minnesota and the Dakotas will crowd the Otter Tail river for tubing during the day and masses of people crowd the lake shore and it's several bars (Zorbaz, etc.) at night. It's always a good time.

Excelsior always has a huge turnout for their celebrations. Fireworks over Lake Mtka., entertainment in the Commons (Lakefront Park), people and food.

Thumbs up Sporting Events on July 4th

..Include

1.) Trying to swat the bird-sized mosquitos while watching fireworks
2.) Going inside of a huge Dome to watch a baseball game
3.) The Taste of Minnesota, which features small samples of lutefisk and "tater hot hotdish" (AKA Casseroles) for a 50 dollar admission fee
4.) The great Minnesota 4th of July tradition of watching Fargo and yearning for those 20 below temps
5.) Sweatshirts, sweatshirts, sweatshirts
6.) Mowing and watering the lawn to keep up with your passive-aggressive nosy neighbors

So is there some fun? OH YOU BETCHA!

I go to the fireworks show in Stillwater every year on the boat (you can also watch them from shore). They blow them off right over the very scenic & beautiful St. Criox River. The booms echo down the river valley.

You again. Luckily for you, I can't type the word I want to call you right now.
1. DEET. OFF!. Whatever you want to call it, use some damn bug spray. If you choose not to, you will become mosquito dinner and it will be nobody's fault but your own.
2. You could also go watch a Saints game, its $20 cheaper. Or, you could wait a year so as to enjoy what will be one of the best new stadiums in Baseball. Your call.
3. The Taste of Minnesota is free. It always has been. It has upwards of 40,000 people and you can eat whatever you choose.
4. If you are watching Fargo (n.b.; nobody else is) on the 4th of July you should stop blaming your problems on Mpls. and ask yourself why you would do such a silly thing.
5. It is July in Minneapolis. If you need a sweatshirt you also probably need a doctor.
6. You mow your lawn so your grass doesn't grow a foot and a half tall. If you don't want to mow your grass you can either hire the job out or move to a place that doesn't have grass to mow. Apparently, you didn't think of that and are now passively aggressively bitching to us because your neighbors are wondering why their kid got lost in your front yard.
Instead of lamenting about *your* choices, why don't you suggest a nice place to spend the holiday. Conversely, you could learn to find the (relatively) correct time and place to (try) to tear my odious city a new one and take your rant somewhere else.

The Stillwater fireworks are really good and if you don't have a boat, watch them from Pioneer Park on North 2nd street. You are up so high that the display is at eye level-GREAT view.

Apple Valley does have good fireworks, we can watch them from our front yard so that is nice.

Taste of Mn has gone downhill but the fireworks are good and the MN Orchestra coordinates music for them so that is cool.
