Jason Lewis is from small town Iowa. Lots of small town people have overly-exaggerated perceptions of urban crime.

It's OK, I probably have an overly-exaggerated perception of the prevalence of meth labs in Iowa.

A lot of "Livable City" awards are based on so many factors. Many factors that dont even pertain to physical life such as "parks, trees, lakes and etc.."
Most livable lists are made from Doctors per capita, # of individuals with Bachelor's /Master's, natural environment, vehcile emissions, teachers per student, taxes, crime, people in poverty, etc.
St Cloud won the most livable city in the world last year for cities in the 50,000 - 250,000 field, or something like that... St Cloud isnt the prettiest, funnest, or cleanest city in the world, but based on factors such as medical, education, social, recreation, etc, i gues it was..

I love snow. It makes life livable for me because I can play in it. Snowball fights are quite fun.

Exactly. Minneapolis isn't Livable just based on the summer. The winters are probably a good attribute to Minneapolis' 'Livability'. They provide outdoor recreation and activities, if when combined with summer, spring and fall, give year - round activity in the Twin Cities. You can go cross country skiing around the metro area, or bike around the metro area on the many trails and parks. I think it is cool to say that MPLS has one of the highest deer populations of any major city. There are really a lot of unique neighborhoods in MPLS. Plus, its very clean. Jobs are easy to find- 3M, Carlson, Target Corp, Best Buy, Imation, General Mills, US Bancorp, Xcel, Supervalue, etc... It's a great place for young professionals and families. It is an educated place with the obvious UoM, the 5th largest University in the USA, and also one of the most highly regarded. Wild life needs to be mentioned, again, with the Mississippi River and the lakes. Three major professional sports teams are based in Minneapolis. Crime isn't as bad as many other metro areas, however it does exist, but remember it is a City of nearly 400,000 residents in a metro area of about 3.5 million. Crime will happen, but at least here it is minimal and managable. Oh yeah, home to the USAs 8th busiest (17th in world) airport. And proximity to the Mall of America.... All probably had some part in deciding'livability'

I prefer Target over WalMart anyday. Target is just more orderly IMHO. I eat General Mills cereal(love Chex and Wheaties).
I live in metro Atlanta and snow very rare and you get maybe an inch or two if you get any. The blizzard of 1993 is a seldom occurence. For me, snow is like gold. Atlanta does have the busiest airport in the world, but Atlanta is a very violent city, especially when you compare it to Mpls. Actually, combine Mpls and St. Paul and the murder rate and total number of murders will still be much lower than Atlanta. Ironic because Atlanta isn't a rust belt(mpls isn't either) and the economy is relatively good compared to places like Cleveland, Detroit, etc.
My mother used to live in Mpls while she was in college(she went to University of Minnesota) and I have an aunt living in Mpls as well.
My father would be very happy to hear that mpls has alot of lakes(and so am I). He likes to fish(though he hasn't fished in many years). I like to swim.
I know one thing I want to see is the cherry and spoon sculpture.
On the St. Paul side I want to see the Cathedral.

Gophers?
Sorry, but the Gophers are a joke.
U of M athletics is pretty sad actually.
5th largest University in the USA, and one of the best, but their sports arent great.
I mean wrestling is consistely good, as well as mens golf, swimming and volleyball, and track and CC. But those sports dont really draw a huge following or audience even among U of M students.
The big money sports (BIG TEN SPORTS) Basketball, Baseball, and Football are pretty pathetic. Brewster is going to be great for the U in about 2 or 3 more seasons, Tubby has some heavy recruiting to do if he wants a successful basketball team. And baseball is dead without a nice stadium, who seriously wants to go watch Collge baseball in the metrodome?
Hockey may be the only thing going for the U. They are #1 in the country, but we'll see what happens in March. Its hard to sustain a solid team when you after all the top recruits who leave for the pros after 2 seasons of college
