Moving and need suggestions on places close to Light Rail
Young professional moving from Lawrence, Kansas to Twin cities area to work at Fort Snelling. Looking for a one-bedroom apartment between 700-1000 per month. Something located along the light rail in order to use it for my commute to work each day. Any suggestions on safe areas to look for an apartment along the light rail would help. Will be coming up next week to look at places and would like to have a list of places to look at.
Thanks.

If you're a male, apartments near any stop will be perfectly suitable. If you're a female and don't feel comfortable in the inner city and walking alone, at night, etc. I would recommend looking for apts at any stop besides Cedar Riverside, Franklin Ave and Lake St.

Nokomis and surrounding neighborhoods in southeast Minneapolis are among the safest in the city; its an area people tend to forget about which is generally a good thing. From where I live on 54th & 34th, I can take a bus that stops every 15-20 minutes right outside my building and be at the light rail station in 10 minutes, and from there to Ft. Snelling in 5. Its a quiet building in a quiet neighborhood which carefully screens all its tenants (that was the biggest thing I was looking for when I moved). There are other apartments on the light rail line itself, but they are a couple blocks from the station - I much prefer the one minute walk to the bus stop myself especially during January, and its much quieter.

If you don't mind me asking "Haver" what apartment complex do you live in? Is your apartment complex in the Nokomis area. I have heard from others that the Nokomis area is nice and safe. What is located near your apartment (grocery, gas stations, restaurants)? Thanks for the feeback!

54th & 34th, PM and I'll give you the management's phone number. You could easily walk to just about everything you need - grocery (not a corner market, a REAL grocery store), hardware, barber & beauty, liquor, Wells Fargo bank, used book store, public library, post office, tailor, Norwegian bakery, a couple really nice restaurants (Thai and ... I think Mexican), dry cleaners, 2 gas stations (SA and an off brand), 4 repair shops (Service Station at 54th is family run and is honest), and two neighborhood bars. Those are all within four blocks either north or south. Within biking distance you have Lake Nokomis & Hiawatha, Minnehaha Falls, and the West River road along the Mississippi). There's section 8 housing on 58th so that areas "just a touch" fringy but you mostly see Somolis living there and they're cool (vast majority are on a middle-class upwards path). The walk up to 50th is real pretty because a lot of people take care of their properties and have nice landscaping.
