Need Suggestions For Housing In or Near St.Paul
Hello everyone!
I am possibly moving to the St. Paul area and need some suggestions for housing options/areas to live. I am originally from Dickinson, ND moved to Hastings, MN with the Fam for about 4 years then moved to Grand Forks, ND for college. I have a job opportunity in St. Paul at the Health East Corp office located on University Ave in the Midway Area of St. Paul.
I don’t know much about the areas that surround. I definitely want a safe low crime location and would prefer to have a garage and looking to spend around 800-900 a month. I don’t know how much I like the Idea of living directly in st. paul but I’m willing to consider it. (I have been a suburban person all my life so I’m used to a little more space and not so many people ... lol.)
I have been doing some looking on the internet and I have found one place in Woodbury that looks promising but im not sure that the commute would be reasonable. (I’m thinking that I would be happy with a commute of something like 30-45 min maybe an hour... I don’t know)
*Does anyone have any suggestions for good locations to look to live.
*Anybody have an apartment that they are just in love with that I should look into?
*How about good places to find apartments on the internet such as Apartments for Rent and Homes for Rent, Move.com , Minneapolis Apartments, Minneapolis Apartment – RENT411.com ... etc?
Any help would be appreciated and if you have any questions please let me know !
Thanks!

Woodbury, Oakdale and Maplewood (the east side of Maplewood) would all be super easy commutes into Health East/Midway area--15-20 minutes?. You could also look into the Highland, Grand Ave area--garages might be an issue there though.
Eagan would be an option too, go up Hwy 35 to Ayd Mill road and you are pretty much at work-15 minutes and you get off 35 before all the really bad traffic starts.

Places like Highland Park have a little more space in them, but are still perfectly located. Roseville would also be a very easy commute. There are alot of things out around Rosedale in terms of services and activities.

I would suggest Highland too. Lovely area, plenty of amenities, easy commute. Also the area around Grand Avenue/Summit. Lots of apartment houses along there altho a many of them are inhabited by students - if that's an issue.

Thanks everyone for such quick responces ! keep them coming ! The more info the better!
Living in a building with many students is not a problem (as long as the appartment is good about keeping things to a dull roar in the eve hours durring the week). I am only a year out of college myself so that wouldnt bother me.
In regards to the commute.... do you really think that in say a rush hour time that the commute from Woodbury to Midway would only take 30min? I always thought that 94 got very congested durring that time (say if one was trying to get to work by 7:45-8:00)? When I was home last I drove it and it took me about 20 min in good traffic.

If you're working in midway, do yourself a favor and don't live in Woodbury. Not only will you be bored out of your mind but you'll be spending 10 hours a week in the car...not worth it.

People on this forum are too quick to shy away from up and coming areas. My brother just bought a classic bungalow about 6 blocks away from Snelling and University and he LOVES it. As long as you don't go too far east of there the area is actually pretty nice. I would check that area out before you settle in some suburb a million miles away.

If you like the small town suburb feel, then maybe you want to go up into Shoreview-it's immediately north of Roseville. Shoreview has apartment complexes that have garages. Try Midland Terrace. The drive is less than 20 minutes to the Midway area down Snelling Avenue, I take that drive all the time to work.
