Hello, I'm looking into purchasing a condo in the NE area. I've lived in Seven Corners, Downtown Proper, and gave the suburbs a shot for the last year in Falcon Heights (burbs are not for me!).

I've narrowed it down to a few available units and am curious if anyone knows much about the areas they are in, mainly because one of them is nearing North Central/West and I'm unfamiliar where the 'edge' is before you enter the stigmatized area of Minneapolis.

I'm looking at the areas around 4th and Central Ave, and 18th and Central Ave.

If it's any reference I work near the intersection of 35W and East Hennepin.

Thanks in advance.

4th and Central is a perfectly safe and convenient location. I would not hesitate to buy there in the least.
18th and Central is a combination of blue-collar folks, artists, bohemians and some immigrants (mostly Hispanic and Indian from what I have seen). It isn't as desireable of an area, but it is a stable area that should not have too many problems with crime. You really have to cross the river (or be very close to a bridge crossing) to be in an edgy area.
For ease of transportation and desirability of area in general I would lean more towards the Saint Anthony area around 4th and Central, but you be fine in whatever you decide.

Default condos in n.e.

There's a great place called Madison Lofts. An old building turned into condos on Madison and 18th in n.e. Minneapolis.
