Default What type of "part time" jobs are there in Minneapolis.

I know there are a few where I live now, such as banks, retail or call centers, although, I was wondering if there are any other options around Minneapolis. I plan to come down to Minneapolis two months before school starts, just to get myself situated. Are banks, call centers and retail the only jobs available around there that people around the average age of 21 can go to? Preferably part-time? Gracias.

a fair number of people work part time at UPS as well since they offer tuition reimbursement. Its pretty physical, but a good way to get in shape.

I really am not the, "muscley" type. I'm actually a girl, not saying girls don't do Fed-Ex, although I'd like to not be so active and get sweaty all the time.

Hahaha! I'm with ya!

When I was in school I mostly wanted retail jobs specifically for the discount on stuff I was going to have to buy (or want to buy) anyhow. That thought always made me feel better about retail.

Depending on what time you have classes you could try to get a job as a receptionist somewhere. That's non-sweaty and depending on your major it could help get you some office experience.

I'd recommend staying away from call centers. Ick. I worked at one of those places though I only made calls during training...I was something else with a long "official" sounding title that I can't think of right now...but I really just harassed people for the 3rd time (they got the call, a "closer" called them back and then I called to record their magazine subscription for legal documentation). It was the most stressful job...a million times worse than retail (I never worked for commission in retail so I never felt like I had to pressure anyone).

I am so glad those days (working days in general) are behind me!

Finding a job stinks, so good luck to you!

In that case get a job at a restaurant bartending or serving tables. If it's a busy restaurant you will make a killing in tips.

I'm not a big fan of people. I'll just work as a receptionist.

I honestly have no idea! I just figure with all the office buildings around there ought to be SOMETHING.

P.S. LOL at your "not a fan of people" thing!

A friend of mine once worked at a clinic/hospital just filing stuff all shift and she really only talked to her co-workers. Maybe you can dig for one of those positions.

Lol, yeah I worded the "not a fan of people" wrong. I don't like the fast pace jobs which force you to have an outgoing and bubbly personality which constantly has you talk to various people. I'd get fired on the first day, I would be too quiet. Clinical/Hospital would sound cool too, I like helping people in a benefical way. Thanks for giving me different options! I just want to start a job right away when I get there so I can start meeting people and paying for rent and college. Should work out fine. Thanks.
