The school system is great, the people are very friendly, and you can get a great house for about $200,000.

as angelaf mentioned, "Once the temp drops below a certain degree, it all feels pretty much the same."

That temperature is -20.

Roseville is a nice area and is close to downtown Mpls., most suburbs are. St. Paul is also nice and there are muti-million dollar homes along with $100k homes there.

Edina (Every Day I Need Attention) does have that "snooty" reputation but it's not really that way.

I live in Anoka,"the halloween capitol of the world," It's not as bad as it is made out to be. We arent a bunch of red necks w/confederate flags flying outside our front door. Well Im not anyhow.
My husband works DownTown Mpls. It is only about 20 miles from home, and the drive isn't always too bad.

No matter what anyone says, we all have our favorite places.. Maybe coming for a visit and just roam around like a tourist? Might help?

Good luck!!
Is this only in the Nothern part? Were looking in the SE part.

Mostly North Minneapolis, and mostly within the city limits, maybe a little into the 1st ring suburbs of Robbinsdale and Brooklyn Center.

The Minneapolis city limits are pretty small at 58 sq miles. Low crime suburbs start very close to the city compared to what you saw in Charlotte. The same distance from downtown at where you stopped on 485 in Charlotte and saw gang members and such hanging out by WalMart/Lowes/BiLo, would already be well into safe second ring suburbs in the Minneapolis metro area.

I have a bunch of extended family around Fergus Falls and I lived most of my life in the Minneapolis suburbs. I have been living in Charlotte since July looking for a place where I would want to build a home, but I am actually starting to consider returning to the Minneapolis area instead. I have more info to give, ask here about whatever or PM me.

Thanks buddy! How are the schools? The pictures I see are breath taking! Nice houses. I seem to be able to get more land and a bigger house there. How are the jobs? Concerned for wife. She is a RE Broker. Although doesn't want sales. She has a job now where it is salary and bonus. So, do the administration jobs pay well?

Most of the schools outside the inner city are pretty good, and with open enrollment you can put your kids in any school you like without living in the district as long as they have space. The wife shouldn't have too much trouble finding something to do and pay isn't bad, better than NC in most cases.

I went to highschool in Mendota Heights. I LOVED it. I lived in Eagan and drove to school. This was in the late seventies but I hear that things haven't changed much. I think that the suburbs to the south of the cities are better and safer with a stronger sense of community. The people are a lot nicer than people on the east coast. At first it's hard to get used to. I'm moving back.
