On one hand I want to leave town the weekend it takes place...but on the other hand I want to see if the protests yield hilarious consequences.

I'm so confused. I thought most people in Minneapolis were liberal/democrats.

MN is typically a democratic state however, having the convention here has nothing to do with that--it's business. The city gave them the best bid basically.

plus the Republican party thinks that Minnesota is a swing state and if they can find a way to win it it will help their chances for winning the election.

A lot of the Republican officials up here wouldn't be electable in the more hard core conservative bastions. With an occasional exception like Bachman most are moderate/centrist, or at least have to pretend to be that way, and some like Carlson, Durenburger, and Ramstead would be castigated as liberals in places like South Carolina or Texas.

If they take MN it means they've basically swept the nation.

essentially. Denver tends to be more right of center but the DNC is hosting their convention there.

We live within (fairly long) walking distance of the Excel Center so remain curious about how this will affect us as far as traffic, etc. Hadn't thought about renting out my house, hmmmm. We do have a couple of spare bedrooms.....but then again, maybe not.
