I suck at finding things to do in and around the Twin Cities
I come to work every Monday and people talk about fairs, art festivals, camping trips, free concerts, etc that they went to over the weekend. I have tried to find out what's going on but I suck at finding things to do!!!
Can someone please share any resources they use for finding things to do! I am on a pretty tight budget with the mortgage, family, gas, and grocery prices so really like the free stuff but open to all information.
I thank everything for any and all info!!!

I always pick up Friday's Minneapolis paper when I'm interested in doing something over the weekend. There's probably better sources, however.

A lot of institutions like the MN Zoo have events listed on their websites and if you can afford any memberships to places like the MIA they will send you their monthly newsletters with upcoming events highlighted. If you're a member you can usually get into these things for free. If you have a computer readily available you could bookmark the websites for annual events like the - State Fair
- Minneapolis Institute of Arts - Minneapolis Institute of Arts
- Uptown Art Festival - Minneapolis Uptown Art Fair
- Renaissance Festival
- the Zoo's Summer Concert series - Minnesota Zoo/ Subway Music in the Zoo
- Basilica Block Party
- Stone Arch Festival of the Arts - ~ : Stone Arch Festival of the Arts : ~ - HOME
- Aquatennial
- Highland Fest - Highland Fest 2008

Almost every suburb has their own concerts in the park series. Then there are the annual Minneapolis events such as the Uptown Art Fair, The Aquatennial, Fringe Festival, etc. Pick up a copy City Pages. That'll get you going too.

If you live in a Minneapolis neighborhood - become active with your local neighborhood association or get on their list, they are a wealth of information and often market different events going on. We're constantly bombarded with things to do around the city and our neighborhood/ area - on a lot of days we have to choose between different events going on simultaneously (but part of this might be that we work in the non-profit sector which generally has a pretty lively web of email forwards going on related to community activities and events). If you don't have these type of community activities/ networks, pick up some local papers, read bulletin boards, etc.
