Sidenote: there are plenty of homes that are in desperate need of rehab/rebuild in Minneapolis and St. Paul, including a few in my neighborhood.

The reason its taking New Orleans so long is the long history of corruption, and misuse of funds there. (They got funds for the levees, but they were used to build businesses near the levees) Having lived on the coast I know of several businesses that offered to help but 'Chocolatetown' mayor Nagin wants things to go through his people (ie bribes).

Look at Mississippi...many towns were wiped off the earth and have been rebuilt, but they don't get a lot of press. Why not look for Habitat opportunities in MN? Helping your own community.

There are a lot of Habitat for Humanity houses here in MN; here's a couple of links for you:

Welcome to Habitat For Humanity of Minnesota (http://www.hfhmn.org/HFHMN/index.html - broken link)
Twin Cities Habitat for Humanity - Home

Northsider14, this would be a great organization for you to get involved with right here in your own hometown. How about if you start by getting involved here, then work your way up to New Orleans next year? From previous posts I feel that you really do care about your own neighborhood; so maybe you can check around and see if their are any Habitat Houses within walking distance from your home that you can volunteer at and learn some job skills doing this near home first.

LMAO! Me, Republican?? No, Not the in the least bit. I'm a LIBERAL Democrat. Obama 08' all the way!!

Him when he was younger. That's an inspiring picture for many young people like me and you, (Northsider14).

Most people make money by getting some sort of job. I put it there bluntly. I needed money when I was younger, so I went to fastfood and when I didn't want to work there anymore. I just quit. Simple as that.

And I can definately see how you thought I was republican. The phrase, "get a job" is common amongst those people, yes I may be stereotyping but whatevs. I didn't mean to put it so bluntly, so sorry northsider. Getting a job instead of handing out newspapers is the easiest way to get more money, even if it's fastfood.
