Just get a job. Get something where you are able to get hired quickly and then quick whenever you feel like it. Like fastfood.

A young Republican?
Consider fundraisers like a garage sale and get a few neighbors/friends to add to the for-sale pile. Perhaps people at your church would be able to help?

Getting a job to make money doesn't occur to Democrats is that what you're saying? A handout is the Democrat way? It seems jazzy is on the right track, you need money you get a job, pretty simple.

If you are over 14 you are old enough to legally work in MN. There are limits to how long and what you can do, but you can get a job, you just have to find someone that will hire you. You could try corn detasseling, picking rock for farmers, etc. They all hire younger kids. It isn't easy but there are jobs out there.

You also need to check with Habitat--you might need to have a parent go along with you for a project like that. You could also check with church groups in your area to see if any of them are doing mission trips to NO to help rebuild homes. I know our church just sent a group to Mississippi for the same thing.

You must be joking. She lives in north Minneapolis. That's a job for kids from 4th tier+ suburbs and out in the country.

It's too bad that the StarTrib changed paper delivery routes to adult car routes instead of the old delivery routes done by kids. That's how I got started in Junior High school back in the 1970's -- hauling 33 papers around our neighborhood every day after school.

Not a lot of money, but it was some, it gave me a chance to interact with all of my neighbors, and it gave me something to do every day.

FYI, I made a little money from ages 13-15 by mowing lawns and ref'ing soccer matches.

However, you might have a little more luck going door-to-door in Edina, Eden Prairie, Wayzata and Minnetonka.

In this case, yes. She doesn't need money to support herself, she needs some side cash so she can go help people in New Orleans. Working minimum wage to do this really doesn't sound like a very viable option when she could likely come up with the money in a much easier fashion. It is not a 'handout" when you are not using the money for yourself, she is going to help people. Or, on the contrary, the OP could stay at home here and the thousands of destitute people in New Orleans could all get jobs. What is Habitat for Humanity but a handout?
