Hello,
I am considering living in the Seward district, 1 block south of franklin and 1 block west of Milwaukee. I have a brand new car and the place I am considering does not have off street parking.
Would I be at risk for a broken window/stolen-anything parking on the street in this area?

Also, is there in general much crime in the Seward area? Franklin comes off as a bit shady at first glance, but once you get off that street it seems much better.

Thanks!

I am familiar with the seward area. I worked at FV Riverside for a while. I would not recommend living in this area. There has been a history of a lot of crime in this area. The Seward Towers do not attract the best people (ghetto). I used to get approached and followed to the parking ramp. I had to do a homecare visit there once for a clinical...it was scary!

Maybe the apartment you had in mind is OK, but as for walking by yourself, I don't recommend it (daytime may be OK, early evening on...not so good). As for parking, you take you chances with parking on the street anywhere you go. If you don't leave valuables or a nice stereo in the car, you will probably be OK. Keep in mind show emergencies stink in Minneapolis. I had been towed several times. they don't waste time taking you car and charging you well over a hundred bucks for each offense (they lost my car twice)!

*shrug* I dunno, I was friends with a group of four girls that shared a house in Seward and never had issues. They would usually walk several blocks from their place to Tracy's and stumble home, and back and forth from Augsburg and Target without any issues to speak of.

I have a friend who owns a home close to where you are considering. He, and a few other friends, have lived in the area for about ten years without any major incident. What ever 'troubles' that they had was not unique to the particular area and were/are just the basic stuff that you would encounter anywhere.

I lived off of 19th and Franklin for a minute and never had any problems, nor did the other people who lived in the building. However, a few girls that I knew were afraid to come by at night.

I think at first glance it looks sketchier than it is, because I have also known people who just assume it to be bad.
