Default affordable Hotel recommendation to beat the heat?

There's no a/c in my apartment and with Friday & Saturday temp looking ugly its time to hit a hotel for a weekend - practically an annual ritual for me, now. What can people recommend around the airport area that's still affordable but not quite bottom-of-the-ladder? I've used Hampton Inn on 494 & Lyndale and Days Inn before at the $50-$60 dollar level but all I get is a room. Hoping I can do better this time but still want to keep it budget-friendly.

Micro Tel's have great rates, nothing fancy but clean and cheep. I have gotten some $55 rooms at the Fairfield off 494 in Eagan/Mendota Heights--might want to check with others.

You could try to Priceline a hotel too. You can usually get some pretty good deals doing that, limitations are you might not get to pick exactly where in the city you end up but you can pick, "downtown", "near the airport", etc.

I have had good luck with Hotwire.com: Discount airfare, hotel reservations, car rentals, vacation packages and cruises. They will give you a list of hotel choices to stay at in the area that you choose, but will not tell you the name of the hotel until after you purchase it. They will tell you stuff such as price, how many stars it is rated and what amenities it has. If you are flexible with where the hotel might be located and aren't too picky, this is a good way to do it.
