Question cheap, nice furniture

I desperately need some good furniture but can not afford much. Anyone have some good suggestions on really good unknown thrift stores with good stuff or maybe a cheap outlet place. I am looking for a living room set for around 300-600 dollars. I have looked on Craig's list. Everything looks gross and sat on by some 10,000 times! Maybe any good names of a scrach and dent store?

Thanks a bunch!!

I agree with IKEA.........not too cheaply made, and very modern.

I found alot of stuff on craigslist, stuff from pottery barn and room and board, for cheap!!

In Kansas City I could get really good stuff for the money at Nebraska Furniture Mart, but it looks like they don't have an outlet in Minnesota. I visited the IKEA website for the Twin Cities store and I was pleasantly surprised at the prices. I know what you mean about not wanting something gross and obviously used. I had to return a "new" leather loveseat once because it reeked of smoke to the extent that you could smell it across the room. I read that you can never get that odor out of leather once it gets into it due to it being a porous material. They were really nice about it though, and didn't charge for picking it up and delivering a fresher one.
This probably requires a pickup truck, people moving out of apartments (esp in summer/fall) and college dorms (at the end of semesters) will sometimes sell you stuff in really good condition cheap, just have to take a minute and inspect it before you fork over the cash
