Ivbernard, stop lying... minneapolis aint that bad. I've been there for 8years and it's nothing compare to my home town of Detroit. Most of the crime in thoses areas are committed by drug gangs from Detroit, Flint, Chicago and Los Angeles over the drug trade. If you think I am lying go ahead and ask any any minneapolis or st. paul police officers and they will tell you the same. Even the FBI divison in Minneapolis post it on their web site about the problems of out of state gangs taking over Minneapolis. A couple of years ago the Detroit Boyz and Mickey Cobras from the chi was the main source of the crimes in Minneapolis...so please stop trying to scared people with how dangerous minneapolis when it's not.

MrKue,
Another thing, Chicago has never been the murder capital. Look at their rate. Doesn't come close to Detroit or many other cities.

The Icy River Vagabond... I'm from the Eastside of Detroit(6mile & Gratiot). I moved to Minneapolis for the jobs and stayed for almost 8years, but I came back to Detroit for a funeral not too long ago and I decided to stay because those people in Minnesota are kind of backwards, man, you know what I mean...they are slow in the culture. What they are doing now, Detroit was doing ten years ago. Anywayz, it's good to be back in "D".

I posted another thread about North Minneapolis and it was deleted(go figure!), so I am going to rant here. Why is this part of the city so out of sync with the other parts of Minneapolis? We were discussing some of the worst neighborhoods in this country and someone mentioned North Minneapolis. 70% of all the murders seem to happen in North Minneapolis and it is almost always African-American on African American. People complain about "racism, high unemployment and lack of opportunities". Immigrants like the Hmong, Somali, Ethiopians never complain about such things and overall are doing much better than most African Americans. Can anybody explain?

I'd be happy to philosophize about my views on this subject but it's too touchy of a subject to talk about on a public forum.

70%...do you have sources to back that figure up?
Also, immigrants doing much better than most African Americans...again, sources please. Its a moot comparison anyway considering that all of your cited examples are immigrants from countries that are basically in total shambles. The US concept of poverty doesn't really compare to the Somalian concept of poverty.
I realize everyone loves to harp on the whole "just let it go" notion when it comes to the fact that blacks were oppressed for generations and considered second class until the tip end of the 1960s. You have generation after generation born into poverty and depression, and to expect that in a matter of 40 years it'll turn itself around completely is ridiculous.
When looking specifically at the Northside of the city, theres no economic opportunities there. The shape of the neighborhood has changed drastically in 40 years. In 1930, the "cutoff" was 6th Ave North (now Olson Memorial). In the early 1970s it became West Broadway, 1980s it was Lowry, and in the 1990s it became Dowling and it continues to inch slowly north.
Now, a part of the reason it got so out of hand in the first place is white flight. The minute a dark skinned neighbor moved in, whites fled and abandoned their communities. Property values went down, and this in turn created concentrated pockets of decay, crime, and hopelessness.

Avoid at all costs.
If you value your life, steer clear of North Mpls. I lived for over 40 years in the Twin Cities, and North Mpls. is hands-down the most dangerous area of the whole TC region. Many parts of South Mpls. are very nice, real hip & trendy. Choose your area around there carefully as well, as some parts can also get a little rough.

My advice to you is..Don't rent in North Minneapolis. Camden yes, but not ever the Jordan neighborhood.. Save herself the misery and find a nice neighborhood even if it means having to have roommates to pay the rent. You don't want to live among drugs, murders, gangs etc.
