St. Anthony Park, Merriam Park and even Mac-Groveland have fewer places to walk to though; and while most of the houses aren't pre-war there are alot from the late 40s that have good woodwork and plaster walls. This question did rake my brain, though. Finding an area with more than a streetcar corner of retail activity that would have houses with yards is surprisingly difficult without getting into more marginal areas.

No place to walk to? Are we talking about the same neighborhoods? SAP has lots of shops and restaurants lining Como Ave., and Merriam Park has a nice retail area centered on Snelling & Selby. And houses not pre-war? In SP and Merriam Pk, virtually ALL of the houses are pre-War.

I agree ... Seward is awesome. If you want to be close to Grand/Summit in Saint Paul (which some people recommended) you could try out the "Selby/Dale area". (I live there).

Hi again...i checked out some stuff on line and some listings for selby/Dale, Grand/Summit and that's exactly the kind of area i was thinking of...if the move comes off, i will definitely be checking out st paul as a result as well as Minneapolis proper. Things always seem different in the flesh of course, but again, thanks all for your input...your reponses have genuinely been very helpful.

Sorry. My first sentence should have been two. I was referring to Highland as I was talking about the age of homes. Anyways, SAP and Merriam Pk. have really small commercial areas that give you at least something to walk to, it just isn't a large commercial area. you would have to leave those neighborhoods for most things.
