Default Current Carlson Perspective

Hey,

I am currently a marketing major senior in the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota. If I were you, I would take the job in Michigan and continue to look for jobs in Minneapolis over the next year. Many students in the Carlson school are struggling to get positions with the large companies now like Target, Best Buy, and General Mills because the number they are currently hiring is significantly sinking. Additionally, you must realize that many of the large companies here recruit from all the Big Ten business schools so I believe it to be pretty difficult to even interview with these companies unless it is on campus. This is not to say that is impossible but realize that with more possible opportunities in Minneapolis there is also a large educated labor pool already in place in which they are recruiting from. Obviously, like in many business positions, it is all about networking with recruiters and possible future managers. I would take the time to try and create some connections while you are getting pay checks in Michigan. As always, take mine and everyone elses' advice with a grain of salt and realize it is only advice. You are the only one who truly knows what is best for you.
