There are many decent Middle Eastern restaurants in the Twin Cities. There are others but these are my favorites:
- Beirut Restaurant on Robert Street in West St. Paul (great Lebanese food)
- Black Sea on Snelling Avenue St. Paul (Turkish food, excellent and SUPER cheap)
- Babani's in downtown St. Paul (Kurdish)
- Caspian Bistro on University Avenue in Minneapolis for Persian food (my personal favorite)
- Abu Nadir on Cleveland and Como Avenues in St. Paul (Palestinian/Israeli food)
- Kyhber Pass in St. Paul (Afghani food)
- Da Afghan in Bloomington (Afghani food)
- Jerusalem's in Minneapolis (general Middle Eastern)
- Mediterranean Cruise in Eagan (general Middle Eastern)
- Shish in St. Paul (general Middle Eastern).

For the love of all things objective....
Fashion Guy, you could not be more right on about your statements and observations. I completely agree with you on so many levels.
"The above are just a few aspects I could immediately think of. Honestly speaking, Twin Cities is a nice city for a visit, but to live here, I just find myself frustrated to find that I can't experience stuff available in every other city of America. I know some people would defend immediately, saying if you don't like it, why don't you move out immediately, etc, etc. Well, that's also one thing I am concerned about the Twin Cities. They generally don't see beyond themselves and don't recognize how the world has changed for the big picture. They keep themselves in this shell and think this is the best the world can have. "
As predicted, you were met with a firestorm of DEFENSIVE criticism.
A X = Armani Exchange, Kenneth Cole, Burberry, The French Connection, LaCoste, G- Star does not mean snobbish or stuck up it means that there are other brands out there besides the expected Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein "High end fashion" for MN. I'm sure the ones calling you snobbish and stuck up have never even seen a pair of G-Star jeans because it' s impossible to get them here.
I don't see a ton of movies by any means, but wanting to see an Indie flick or something that is not a Jerry Bruckheimer popcorn mass produced flick does not make you some "arts-y" stubborn person afraid to venture out of Uptown. It makes you a well rounded person, willing to explore other options of media.
For all the cities being thrown around, I have to wonder if these "world class" travelers have ever been to NYC, LA, Chicago, Seattle. It's great to google them, but actually visiting them is another thing. I've met quite a few people who have never been to Chicago, or away from their lake cabin. I'm in awe since Chicago is a mere 7 hour drive. The statement about "coming back to earth" that this is not LA or NYC- WOW! How interesting! Which leads me to ask myseff again, ever been to LA or NYC?
Fashion Guy was merely pointing out some observations that he'd noticed. Was not saying at all that the Twin Cities sucked. Open your eyes, and accept other people's points of view without berating or being on the defensive or the attack.
Yes, there are a lot of great things the Twin Cities has to offer, but there are a lot of things that the Twin Cities lacks too! Thankfully there are plenty of pumpkin patches to check out with people sporting their Versace frames to pick out a pumpkin while not worrying about image.

mynycarana, "inbreeding",* that's what it is.
*[This behavior pattern was noted in a post by a Black man--unhappy with the way he was treated in Minnesota. His post was removed by the mod, but i don't know why, he wasn't abusive, he was factual, imo.]

Whenever people move to someplace new and expect it to be just like their previous place of residence, they should expect a certain amount of criticism.
We see the same thing when folks move to Atlanta. People from the East Coast come down here and expect Atlanta to be just like the city they come from, it isn't, and they end up whining about it.
Get used to regional differences. The entire United States does not cater to the East Coast or its behavioral (or shopping, or banking) idiosyncrasies.
Adjust to local differences, or go back home.

It really does matter how you frame stuff up. I agree that many of the specific things brought up as lacking are in fact very accurate. It is one thing to point that out, and yet another to imply the lack of certian retail outlets is an indication that we are somehow on the decline or isolationists.
High end fashion is by nature designed to be exclusive. There is always going to be something new and vouge and hard to find. That is part of the appeal to those who love this stuff. If you have 10K sitting around and you want to get the wardrobe of the week, you can find places here that will get you every single thing your heart desires. Not a lot of that here, but seems to be plenty of posers that like to walk around in the one pair of ________ they managed to aquire in NYC or LA and act like our city is profoundly lacking because they have something you can't buy easily here. They like being a big fish in a little pond. If that turns your crank, I have no problem with that, but give me a break on expecting us to bow down in utter awe.
This concept that we never been anywere is bunk. Plenty of people in Chicgo, LA and NYC never go anywhere either.
No matter where you go, people pretty much need the same things and share some core values. I truly enjoy seeing other parts of the country and world and it really is great to see what they have to offer. I enjoy some places more than others, but it is always great to see a different perspective.
I would never make a comment in Phoenix like "there are no 711 stores". They have a bazillion circle K stores and they are damm near the same thing. As a measuring stick the brand name of a convience store is completly trivial and utterly insignificant.
The idea of everything open at 3:00 a.m. is also interesting. In downtown LA they corrogated steel walls on all the stores pretty early and I would not recommend wandering around at 3:00 a.m. trying to find a soda.
What fashionguy is really saying at some level is this: I have to work a little harder to find some of the things I am accustomed to seeing. That tends to happen when you move from a major market to a mid major market.

"Minneapolis is stupid because there isnt a A-X store downtown..wah wah." Minneapolis is sooo lame because I am the one that cannot find a decent indie movie theater...wah wah... "The Twin Cities have like NO banks, like man, they have none, they dont have any BoA, Citi...Even though The TC have more Wells Fargo than anyother state other than CA...
I dont care if you people try and justify, it was a stupid post by fashionguy. Irrelevant.

Not a fan of Holy Land? Also, if I'm not mistaken there is a middle east buffet around 32nd St S and Cedar Ave but I've never eaten there. You know anything about that?

You can't find flannel lined jeans in Los Angeles. So take your pick. Let me know in the middle of January if anybody is still interested in fashion.
