I count 12 between 2002 and 2007.

You guys are giving the Brooklyn Blvd. Zane Ave. a bad rep undeservingly. I grew up there in this so called "troubled" area and never felt in danger of any sort. The only "danger" you may be in is if you fear opening up your mind to diversity and culture.

So we are just making up the crime in that area? It is all in our minds?

Because I guess I imagined the gun shots at the apartments across the street from DQ on the corner of Zane and Brooklyn Blvd? I remember, I was 12 yrs old with my aunt and mom, and POP POP POP...5 minutes later there wre 15 BP squad cars in the parking lot....
Or I guess I imagined the time I was walking with my cousin near the same intersection-Actually i was getting chinese at that intersection, and I had 4 black dudes rip my sweatshirt off try and steal our money?
Or I guess I imagined the time my grandparents woke to an intruder breaking their kitchen windown in a break in, about 3 blocks from that intersection.
Or I guess I imagined the time i was at Circus Circus and 50 cops showed up because of a gang fight.
Or I guess I imagined the time that there was a huge gang fight by Brookyln JR High , and a couple kids got shot?
Or the time I mean 4 times my bike got stolen from that area as a kid?
hmmm?

Its terrible that those things happened to you, but its sad to say that those things can happen even in nicer areas. Minnesota and the Twin Cities is a pretty safe place especially compared to other parts of the country. I think other cities around the country with similar crime stats as Brookyln Park don't get the same bad rap. Youngstown, OH is a little bigger than BP and they use to average something like 50-60 murders a year.

It might not sound so bad when you compare it to completely irrelevant cities in other parts of the country, but it still has one of the highest crime rates in the Twin Cities metro area.

You're right. As BP seems bad, it really isn't. The nice neighborhoods outweigh the bad ones. And the bad ones arent THAT bad. Plus, that area (Zane and Brkly Blvd) is being well redone. Its actually really nice now.
Saying that BP has some of the most crime in the TC is like saying that Bill Walton is the poorest of the Sam Walton heir.

I did seem to get my point across though, if you compare it to other parts of the country it doesn't seem so bad. It is also relevant if you have lived in other parts of the country that may have higher crime rates than BP and never thought those areas were bad. I'm not trying to make excuses and say the its fine with the current crime stats, they do need to continue to try and improve some of the areas.

BP is considered bad because it's bad for being in Minnesota, but compare it to other cities of its size in other states and BP doesn't look as bad. Living in metro Atlanta for the last 12 years, if BP is considered Mpls-St.Paul metro's worst, then I wouldn't be too scared to live in Brooklyn Park. I am not writing this post to bash any particular place, but I will be honest. In metro Atlanta there are suburbs that are smaller than BP that see as many or more murders than BP. I am just stating the facts. Yes, crime in BP is higher than average for Minnesota or for the Mpls-St. Paul metro area. I also would keep things in perspective too.
