they'll never do away with public transit. Most routes are safe and go without incident. I have three different friends who work for metro transit...none of which have had problems, and all of which have driven the 5 on the night shift for months on end.

I apologize for slandering BP like that - I oftentimes have trouble differentiating BP with BC. This happened ~50th and Penn, but we didn't stop until 44th.

I have had issued taking the shuttle from school (NHCC) to the BC Transit Center, though. The bus is covered in tags of violent area gangs (YnT, Ladies, GDN are just a few I remember seeing), and it only travels in BP. I have been riding it on two different occasions where the driver had to call the police on some of the thug passengers.

By the way Camden Northsider I live in Willard Hay.

Do you feel that drug dealing/use, and fighting are "incidents"? I ride the 14, 19, and the 5 on a regular basis and I can say that there is a lot of action going on. What is worse than the bus ride, though, are the bus stops. The stop on Lyndale and Broadway is just one example of stops where there is almost always criminal activity going on.

Oh, I see - or did you mean 50th & Brooklyn Blvd (before the bridge)? 50th & Penn would be a pretty residential area in Shingle Creek - 50th & Brooklyn Blvd is technically in B.C. but right on the border with mpls before the bridge and turns to Osseo Road in Mpls.

And wow - I hope you live in the Northwestern chunk of willard-hay, if not (or I guess either way) that's a long walk!

From reading other threads, what I have read was that the worst part of BP was near some certain apt. complex or some place on Zane. That is what I have heard.

Brooklyn Blvd and Zane is the "worst" part, but its not that bad. Yes, there are incidents that take place but its really pretty much small potatoes in the grand scheme. There has been one murder in Brooklyn Park this year. Also, bear in mind that its a huge suburb.

You haven't had the north side experience if you've never walked down Penn ~11pm wearing dress clothes.

I know a few people who have lived in the greater mpls-st.paul area. The persons I have talked to say that Brooklyn Park isn't that bad. This is coming from former Minnesota residents who now live in metro Atlanta.

Say, do you happen to know how often do they have those "drive a bus open houses" at the fairgrounds? Because I'd love to give one of those nice new Gillig monsters a whirl sometime. One of the Strib columnists (I think it was either Lileks or that "Roadguy" guy) recently wrote up his experience at one of those. It sounded like fun.

Oh, yeah, and to keep this somewhat on topic, I hereby offer confirmation that 44th and Penn is Minneapolis, somewhat near Brooklyn Center, but not Brooklyn Park.
