I would be one to argue that "graffiti" isn't always gang signs, it can be much much more sentimental than that.

Only people in shady neighborhoods would graffiti a train. An IMPEACH BUSH NOW stencil just doesn't look as good there as it does on a light post or utility box in Uptown. IMPEACH BUSH NOW stencils have never passed as graffiti, in my opinion. Gang graffiti tends to delineate blocks -- putting that same graffiti on a moving object would be counterproductive. That is all I was trying to say.

There wouldnt be any room to talk if you did not have the understanding that artists have on how the paint is actually applied. Graffiti can be used in neighborhood beautification, it all depends on how talented that particular individual was. The way a graffiti writer gains respect in the community is to put in work, attempt to hone their creative skill, and get up, be seen. How you take the work is on you basically, they dont care if you like it or not, its there and they want it to be there for as long as possible. All the same its vandalism either way gang related or not, but real writers never hit houses, cars, places of worship, etc.
As for the light rail not getting hit with anything is probably because of the security, as well as what was said before about not stopping for more than 2 minutes..
Weren't they going to build a lightrail line from the cities to Mankato?

Now we are just blurring the line between murals and graffiti. I happen to be a fan of neither, I just tend not to get mad at murals.
There will never be light rail between Mankato and the Cities. A passenger train line is possible (tracks go there directly from Saint Paul), but that really hasn't been proposed on a wide-scale either.

Graffiti doesnt have to be on the outside. Passengers can mark it up from the inside on the backs of seats and the walls.

Poor light rail talk.
Once upon a time when the state had money they were actually considering a high speed transport commuter rail to Duluth from MPLS. That has been axed for the time being,

I follow transit issues pretty closely, and I didn't hear that.

I used to follow the issues quite closely and i think the last thing I remember hearing is that the topic of the high speed commuter rail to Duluth has been set aside due to the lack of legislative backing/public support. One could assume that if the issue was funding/financing in 2003-2005, funding is even more of an issue with the economy now.
The Northstar Commuter Rail from Downtown MPLS to Big Lake was Supposed to Start at the end of 2006. Then the Start of 2007. Then the start of 2008. Then now in 2009 sometime. We'll see..
Please shed some light and or info please, as I am curious to see whats happening with these projects.

There is also a line that is supposed to go through uptown and then over to France Ave and down through Edina to Chanhassen or Chaska or something like that.

What I don't understand is why would the city build a rail that runs along traffic and stops at stop lights downtown? Why didn't they build the track up over traffic?
