I live in Lakeville, and our home is currently on the market as my husband was transferred to North Carolina. We love our neighborhood and our neighbors and there are lots of good kids and good friends here. We are in ISD 194, Cherry View Elementary, Century Middle School and North high school. I have nothing but good to say about the schools, teachers and administrators. I have kids in all three schools, and we have been thrilled with their progress, the concern and involvement of parents and teachers and our children's success. My kids are very involved in student government, extra curriculars, the gifted and talented program, and one child who needs remedial help (so I have experience with both sides!). We have been very happy here and are very sorry to leave these great schools. I don't know what the price difference is between Farmington and Lakeville, but if you buy in a good neighborhood with good schools, your resale will always be higher. I know as we are looking for homes in NC, our first priority is to find the good schools, and then look for a home from there.

I also live in Lakeville. i would choose to live here than Farmington any day. there is a big difference in the blocks that separate us. the schools are better in Lakeville, the homes are nicer and the city as a whole has a much nicer, cleaner and friendlier vibe to it. if you live close to the border (pilot knob) then you may be zoned into district 194. choose Lakeville and you won't regret it

Lakeville had the distinct advantage of drawing up school district boundaries before Farmington. When they did so they conveniently left Ardmore trailer park, which is clearly within Lakeville city limits, outside and up to Farmington to take care of. Higher average property taxes anyone?
I don't know about a cleaner and friendlier vibe. There is an air of superiority in Lakeville... if that's cleanliness or friendliness I guess I'm way off. Farmington is a very clean place and perfectly friendly.
With the money though, I'd probably still choose Lakeville. It's got much better access to the cities via I-35

I would take Lakeville over Farmington anyday! Lakeville has more of a upscale feel to it, obviously a lot of it is total BS but the schools in Lakeville are much better. Farmington to me is still a bit rednecky, more blue collar and it can be a weird town, the location is a bit isolated and there is no easy access to a major highway like in Lakeville (easy acccess to 35 or 77). I would consider Apple Valley as well!

I would have to agree on Farmington. We love it. Yes, there needs to be a bigger industrial/retail tax base, but I would HIGHLY recommend the schools. We have been very impressed. And the people are WONDERFUL!
