Brooklyn Center now half minority
I found this article interesting. This is for those of you who think there isn't any diversity in Minnesota:
Brooklyn Center now roughly half white, half minority

And if you really want to be discouraged, read through the comments section of the article... it is appalling the level of racism that still exists out there.
BC, though, is likely a harbinger of what is to come in the TC metro, and reflects trends that are happening across the US in both inner and increasingly outer suburbs as well.

Not as a defense or as an attempt to say this area doesn't have issues with racism, but look at the free comments of any paper. They're filled with people nobody will listen to in real life, so they leave vile anonymous garbage now that they have this public outlet. Generally a bunch of total losers- I spar with them often ;-)

Not really- this forum allows for more ongoing discussion and you can really get to know people more on it. The newspaper forums are really for dumping insulting one-liners against anyone who disagrees with your politics.
Also, there just aren't as many loony-tunes here.

Actually I completely agree with you. I was trying to pinpoint why those Trib comments were so worthless and you definitely hit it on the nose.

I use to live up there when it was 100% white. But it always has been a working class lower demographic type of place. It seems natural that minorities would overwhelm the area.
One thing that is certain, the neighborhood has gone down hill physically since the population has become mostly ethnic minority. Yes, there are many nice and hard working minorities in BC but it seems to me that unless it is Asians all demographically minority dominated neighborhoods, regardless of income, are more likely to have more social and economic problems than white neighborhoods. That is a fact.

It is a tendency in U.S. metropolitan areas but I don't think you can call that a fact. There is alot of discrimination and politics involved with it too. If you have a local and state government full of white guys then what neighborhoods do you think they are going to try to most benefit? I'm not saying this is the case all the time, but there are definitely alot of people being screwed with our current government system.

But doesn't the anonymous nature of the comments allow more -- for lack of a better word -- honesty? If you're relatively certain that no one knows it's you, maybe you're more likely to say exactly what you think.
There is far more racism in the world than any of us would like to believe.

I agree with the honesty thing. I don't fault them for their honesty. It's just that I think that points can be more intelligently put than you see there. And that, my friend, is a colossal understatement.
