Count me out of the group of those that disagree with Kluvs statement, and I would argue that atmosphere's fan base tends to hail more from the suburbs than "the city".

I meant the MSA of the area as a whole when I said "city"... just to clarify.

Please explain bad work ethic in Mpls because I don't imagine bad work ethic and Mpls in the same sentence.

Minnesota is known for their work ethic.
My buddy just got hired in Nov. in Florida, and over Xmas break he let told me that one of the main reasons he got hired was because he was from MN.
Education is wonderful here. How do you disagree? K-12 is top notch- Almost every school district has brand new schools all the way down from HS to elementary schools. Also, MN has one of the highest Computer per pupil rates in the US.
And, that's too bad that you have never heard of the U of M. But, what you do or dont know doesnt negate the fact that the U of M is one of the most widely recognizable Public Universities in the USA. It is an internationally known University. It is the 5th largest in the USA. I can give you a handful of names that you could never recognize and you would be surprised that they are the best colleges in the USA.
And you're highly incorrect. Most Minnesotan's, with their Scandanavian background dont like being noticed, or having attention brought on them. Why would people here think that the whole Nation is watching us? If anything, we believe most people dont even know where MN is.
And, yea, you're right, MOA is a big mall. It still doesnt negate the fact that it has more visitors than Sea World, Disney Land, and Disneyworld combined.

Really? Thats funny because the Suburbs have about 3 million people and the "city" has about 380,000.
3,000,000 or 300,000? Wonder where more fans would be from?
Atmosphere was big in the "city" well before their music reached the suburbs, let alone other corners of the UpperMidwest. Their recent surge into high popularity can also explain his large following of suburban kids.
Say what you want, but they don't "suck". If you don't like them, that's fine, however it would be rather unitelligent and ignorant to say they "suck". They make a type of music that is hard to be copied, and has been influential to many.

Most will probably say that he does not suck, but I will bet that them majority of his fans over 18 will admit that there is better hip hop in the TC.
Lets just say that I saw Beat Street, in the theater, when it was realesed. Does that make me a scholar? Not at all. But I have been listening to hip-hop ever since. Atmosphere was cool seven years ago, but not much has changed since except the fan base grew larger and younger. I used to hang out with Slug (Sean) at the CC and Red Dragon (yeah, I know, so has everyone else). Not a bad guy, but seriously, he needs to get off the I am a drunk guy who is semi-depressed and I am going to write lyrics about the girls who hang out at Muddy Waters. That shiv got old 7 years ago.

If Minneapolis/St. Paul were 1,000 miles further south, it would probably be one of the biggest metro areas in the country.
Okay, just a little facetious.
But the fact that this metro has the US's 5th largest concentration of Fortune 500 and Fortune 1000 corporations, and arguably among the three or four best arts scenes in the United States, and home to every major league sports team says a lot about it's industriousness, power and progressiveness
Nearly every single American comes into contact every day with a Twin Cities product or service. Looking at your credit score with Experian, TransUnion or Equifax? Then thank Minneapolis' own Fair Issac Corporation for your FICO score. Eating Wheaties? Maybe Cheerios? Buttering your toast with Land 'O Lakes margarine or butter? Using Scotch tape? Post-It Notes? Shopping at Target? Buying an iPod from Best Buy? Baking a Betty Crocker cake? Reducing fat with Yoplait? Heating up a bowl of Progresso Soup? Managing your 401k with Ameriprise? Getting a new degree from Capella University? Eating at Perkins? Staying at a Radisson Hotel? Healing your wound with a Nexcare bandage? Filtering your furnace with a Filtrete system? Scrubbing your kitchen with Scotchbrite? Eating at Olive Garden? Maybe you have a Medtronic pacemaker or stent? Eating at Oceanaire? Have a helping of Green Giant peas? Planning a trip with Carlson Wagonlit Travel? Chug some Old El Paso salsa? Bake a Totino's pizza?
You are contributing to the Minneapolis/St.Paul economy.
My goodness, there are dozens more examples.
Sure, condemn the winters. Everyone does. I do too. But not many cities in this country can lay claim to the incredible wealth, education, quality of life and amenities that the Twin Cities have to offer.
How many times have the Twin Cities topped "best of" lists in the last 30 years? Dozens. Easily. How many times has Minnesota topped the list for healthiest places to live? Longest-lived residents? Most literate residents? Best educated? Most politically engaged?
I really don't give a flying f*ck that some people consider this area to be insular or stand-offish or unfriendly.
The Twin Cities have been very successful in business, the arts and in education. It's models are not cities like New York, LA or Chicago. It's models are more like Stockholm, Helsinki, Copenhagen and Zurich.

And to clarify...
Minneapolis/St. Paul is slightly bigger than San Diego and slightly smaller than Seattle, although it's growing faster than San Diego. The current metro CSA (Consolidated Statistical Area) is 3.6 million. It's the 3rd largest metro in the entire Midwest, after Chicago and Detroit. Larger than St. Louis, Cleveland, Indianapolis or Cincinnati, and the fastest growing major metro in the Midwest. And it's expected to add nearly 1 million new residents within 20 years.

Panera, Famous Daves, Caribou Coffee, Dunn Brother's, Buffalo Wild Wings.... I'm missing some now.
My favorite is the B dubs story. They were in New York obviously, and wanted to hire an exec living in MN. Wouldn't take the job unless they moved their headquarters to the Twin Cities, and they DID. If that's not saying something, I don't know what is.
And as long as I have your attention... is anyone else unhappy about Target putting Starbucks in their stores? What a great opportunity to expand Caribou Coffee's exposure, and better coffee, throughout the country!

Ha, Pick up their new disc- I did say "their" because it is a group. Anyway, I agreee with your generalization of their music, but their new album sets them aside from all their other work. Its really creative stuff.
