The Little Ceasers on E Lake was closed last night after we got back from the Timberwolves game....now if that isn't a crime, I don't know what is.

haha I know just the Little Ceasers you speak of. I call that complex "Poverty's Paradise" since it has all your basic low income staples in one easy shopping location.

I might add that the Wolves beat the Grizzlies that day in OT with Jefferson scoring 38 points so that particular day it was well worth the cash throwdown. Now about Poverty's Palace, let's see here...Aldi's, Little Ceasars, Savers, a dollar store (not sure if it is Family Dollar or Dollar Tree) and a liquor store...yep, I think it fits the description.

I don't care how much some people try to glorify the North Side as not being too bad, I would not live there not even if you paid my rent. Obviously, some blocks are better than others but if you look at Jordan and surrounding areas, you will see a disproportionate amount of violence and crime. Sometimes I feel like people that live in the North Side almost live in a world of their own which has little to do with the rest of the city of Minneapolis. I am living in Dinkytown right now and I feel safe anywhere I go. Most people that live in Dinkytown obviously go to the U of M and many are broke, yet I do not see a lot of murders, robberies and such. I hate to bring the race/demographics thing but it seems to me that any neighborhood that is majority African American has always a lot of the same problems, violence, crime and such. I always hear people from the North Side complain about "lack of jobs" and such, I have been living in Minneapolis for a long time and I do not remember complaining about "lack of jobs", because I went after the jobs, whether they were in Chanhassen, Shakopee or Bloomington, what is stopping a North Sider from riding a bus or car to another suburb to work? Only a fool can't see that the 4th Precinct is the WORST in the metro area for crime and violence.

That is definitely what the perception is but personally I go by the numbers. I believe Camden was going to create comparison data by neighborhood once the MPD releases December's crime numbers and at that point you can pass judgement with data to back you up.

I witnessed a murder on the West Bank, where the U of M is, and the most violence I've witnessed in all my time working in the heart of North Mpls and living in Camden were a couple of alternative school fights and a domestic dispute. And to compare "poor" U of M students living in Dinkytown (and the lack of crime there) to some of the generational poverty in Near North is not only completely and absolutely ludicrous, it's spoken with true blind privilege - if you're still a U student, I'd advise taking a course in Sociology, as well as spending some time on the Northside before you talk so much smack on a public forum.
And I'm surprised you're so fond of Northeast considering your irrational bias/ fear of North Minneapolis - my Northside neighborhood in Camden has a lot higher quality of life, is a lot nicer-looking, and has way more park space than 90% of any Northeast neighborhood, and our crime rate is lower than at least half of all NE n'hoods.

Generational poverty? Oh give me a break! Sure, now let's make excuses for bad people, well, people murder and rob others because of "generational poverty", so I guess we all have to be understanding and considerate! mod cut I have met people that live in the Jordan neighborhood and almost had their children shot by thugs, yet they do not move out "Well where else would I go?" is what I heard from a couple of them. Does that make any sense to you? Well, if you have such LOW standards for yourself and your children, then you deserve to have the life you have. Sure, it is easy to blame it all on background, the history and such but I believe in personal responsibility. For your information, NE Minneapolis only had 1 murder in 2008. Anyways, you are a good cheerleader for the North Side but I think you are failing to see some facts here. I am done with this discussion, people are free to believe in whatever they want to believe. Happy New Year!

Jordan is a rough neighborhood, I dont think anyone can realistically argue that.
I do think that to compare Jordan to Camden is kind of unfair as there is a pretty significant difference between the two crime-wise.

Yeah, this is going back to the countless discussions we've had about generalizing the northside. North Minneapolis is huge, practically 1/4 of the entire city of Minneapolis and although there are some higher crime areas there, it doesn't mean that you should start generalizing the entire 4th precinct.
