Some people's
PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY involves doing what's right for the community they live in and/or are from - are you proposing that all of the good, hard-working, taxpaying families that live in Jordan and surrounding n'hoods move out and leave? That's the problem that plagues this and most other inner city neighborhoods in this country, the mentality of only caring about oneself and not the community as a whole. Do you know how much worse things would get if everyone did this? What about the people that were born and raised in this neighborhood and have chosen to raise their own families there - what gives you the right to judge them? North Minneapolis is the most convenient (especially for persons that rely on public transportation) and affordable place to live in the city - a huge consideration for raising a family on a tight budget and in reducing travel time to/ from work, shopping, services, etc. Additionally, the earth cannot sustain everyone living in suburban communities (for those that have their own personal transportation, etc.) - there are many people in North that are there as a means to live a greener existence, raise their kids in a diverse neighborhood environment and teach them about the value of living locally.

I'm not sure if you were directing this statement at me or just using it as a generality, but I have quite high standards for myself/ family and live a pretty great life here.

And it is even easier to blame all societal issues on "personal responsibility", especially when you've never had to walk in the shoes (or even thought to put yourself in the position) of the people you're judging. Good for you.
