+1
Edina is not as "showy" as people think. The lake is a better option.

I don't know how I'd feel about living around those people... I mean, I'm a 22 year old young professional. I'm just not sure that Wayzata is urban enough for somebody like me.. Plus, you're surrounded by the minivan moms of Plymouth, and that sort of blows the prestige right there... That's sort of what I like about the aforementioned Chicagoland suburbs- there, it's not considered snobbery, its just an acquired lifestyle. Yeah, people say its the "yuppie" area, but at least there are decent things to do there. I just wish there was something equivalent to Oak Brook or Hinsdale around here...

Look, your going to find pockets of Nazi Sled driving, latte sipping, cocktail partying, people all over the suburbs. Even though Minnesota is one of the richest states in the U.S....we are not as into foreign labels and what restaurant we are spotted at. It's a different mentality than Chicagoland.

Yeah, I have been pumped to check out Chicago and possibly look at job opportunities there when I finish school but Andrew T's description are a major turnoff. When I visit Chicago this summer I'll make my best effort to stay as far away from the aforementioned suburbs as possible.

I've been considering moving to Excelsior, but am concerned with not fitting in or being able to find non-snobby people. We've lived in St. Paul for 8 years (crocus hill), but the schools are not so good. We just want to find a suburb with some character, good schools (son with ADHD), nice neighborhood, big yard, etc. where the people are REAL. Any advice is appreciated.

I live in the very south end of Maple Grove where it borders Plymouth and Medina. We just moved here in February from a northern suburb and I have to say, I was SOOOO worried about finding non-snobby people. I absolutely love my neighborhood with the exception of our right next door neighbors. But everyone in my neighborhood drives nice cars and most moms stay home. I drive a Ford Explorer and work FT so needless to say, I was worried. But I was so happy to move there and everyone is so nice. You would never know they had money or drove the kinds of cars they do. Everyone just hangs out and their kids all play together. It is wonderful. We have a couple of homes in our neighborhood for sale so DM me if your interested in knowing more.

A coworker of mine just moved here from the Seattle area and they ended up in Long Lake and they love it. Nice, modest, well-kept homes. The neighbors seemed really friendly at a party they had...
I actually live in a townhouse in Eden Prairie, and although it is just a nice suburb, it's nice. it's quiet. I'm on the Western end, about a mile or so from Chan... and if you're looking for good schools, EP is one of the best. I grew up in Maple Grove, so i'm a suburb guy, but one of these days i want to live in either Downtown Mpls (i'm single) or Highland-St. Paul, or along any existing/proposed light rail line.
