Default Move for ailing folks

I moved out at 18 to go to put myself through college, then off to make a living for myself. I've lived out of state for the past 19 years and have been content with that. However, as time marches on we all get older. My folks are showing signs of age (in their 70s) and each has mentioned it would be nice if I was closer to them. They divorced when I was 12, and while we do speak to each other every few weeks I dont consider us close.

Not sure if they are interested in me moving back because they are lonely and bored or they want someone to help take care of them...emotionally and financially. The last few years I have taken the approach of sending them a few k each year when the inevitable call comes.

One parent lives in Maplewood, the other in Bloomington, with that said, is there an area recommended for a single person, 250-300k? Townhouse or condo I guess. Would prefer living somewhere close to restaurants, pubs and a grocery. I'm not into late nights out but enjoy a few drinks after work and some sushi on occasion. Recommendations??? Not sure I'm moving but am considering options.

You could find something nice around Grand Avenue in Saint Paul, or towards Downtown and Cathedral Hill. Half-way between Blmgtn. and Maplewood.

One thing to consider is will you be able to care for your parents? You could move back here, get a full time job then be expected to care for them as well. It might not matter where you live since you won't have time to do anything anyway .

Have they considered moving into an assisted living facility or senior condo type place? You might want to investigate long term care insurance for them as well so if you can't care for them, there are funds available to do so. If they don't have any assets then it doesn't really matter but just some things to think about.
