Winter Activities (Minneapolis, Hills: 2010, rent, neighborhoods)

Hi,
Another question about what to when visiting Minneapolis.

Background:
My wife, toddler and I are thinking on moving to Minneapolis in/around 2010. We visited last summer and were very impressed with the city and the all the neighborhoods, people out and about, parks, etc.

My brother and I are visiting next month to check out what the city is like in the winter. My wife is Canadian and I am from the south so we thought it best that I have a look during the winter.


Question:
I was hoping to get some recommendations on some winter things to do in Minneapolis for a family with a young kid (age 3 -5).

Basically what makes winter fun/bearable?? Not so much touristy things but what locals would do on a weekend with their kids in their neighborhoods.

Play hockey in the parks and on the lakes.



Or go XC skiing. You can rent a pulks at several Three Rivers Districts parks.

Sledding. We sometimes still go to the playground, just with snowsuits on.

I agree, skiing, skating, sledding. You could go innertubing at Buck Hill too. My DD is golfing right now so that is an option too (indoor golf dome).

Sledding and hockey/ice skating in the parks are probably the big ones. Hills are easy to come by and practically every park has an out door hockey rink.
