Question commute from Plymouth or Minnetonka

We are considering a move to the Twin Cities with 3 kids. Work will be in downtown MPLS. How bad is the commute from Plymouth or Minnetonka? (Looking at Minnetonka or Wayzata school districts). We are really spoiled now living in Madison WI with an 8 minute commute (20 in "rush hour").

Also, is there any real difference between the Wayzata and Minnetonka school districts? We will have a middle schooler, a grade schooler (very gifted), and a preschooler.

Wayzata seems to have a slighltly better rep, but they are both very good districts.

Double check that the job is really in downtown-which you may have done-but there are many towns that list their address as "Minneapolis" but are really in Wayzata or Eden Prairie. As for the commute into downtown there, you will find a similar commute time, maybe 5-10 minutes longer on a bad day, and depending on where exactly you live.

The main difference between the districts comes down to size, Wayzata is larger then Minnetonka--both are great districts. Are your kids involved in any activities that they will want to do in high school? That might make a difference as to which one is better for you.

Can't help you on the school info, but I live in Minnetonka and work in downtown Minneapolis. The commute is the best I've ever had - 10 minutes. You want to have easy access to Hwy 394 which has a carpool lane. I have heard a lot of complaints about bad traffic from those who have to use Hwy 494, Hwy 62, Hwy 100 and Hwy 35W during rush hour. Best of luck to you!
