I put "bad" in quotations purposely. It is the generalization and has no relation to my own personal opinion.

I see little value in posting tired and beaten to death generalizations. If you want to post an opinion that is great. You kill me with this crap.

Agreed - persons happening upon your post will not understand the hidden meaning to the "bad", so basically these type of comments just serve to continue to perpetuate those very generalizations that you are saying you do not agree with (although it should be noted/ corrected that Slig's definition doesn't include the whole NW quadrant, just a lot of it). So in the end it basically serves the same purpose as people who come on here generalizing all of the quadrant that makes up Philips and Powderhorn areas (and then some) as "bad".

Given the tone of the original poster, I tried to make the differentiation between this apparent less good northern Minneapolis (obviously read it somewhere in previous topics) and where she was most likely seeing condos and apartments, which I assumed was North Loop. I was merely trying to differentiate between two distinct areas. If you prefer I not call it the so called "bad" north Minneapolis then I could call it the Near-North community, or if you prefer I could break it down by specific neighborhooods and call it Jordan, Hawthorne, Near-North and Willard-Hay. However, the original poster is most likely not familiar with neighborhood names so I attempted to make my post more easily understood by her.
If the poster didn't understand the hidden meaning of the "bad" then now she does.

I got the "bad" thing, and would think that a reader would see the quotation marks and understand them in the context in which they were written.
Of course many people won't, but then again many people will simply see "north" (or in some cases "city") and immediately jump to conclusions, anyway, regardless of how much you try to convince them to do otherwise.

how does this look?
""" north """ Minneapolis.
Does that get the point across?

Putting the word bad in quotes does not take away from the fact that you are perpetuating a played out stereotype.
Also, your boundaries have missed some of the most dangerous areas of the city. Great job

As you probably overlooked, I said approximately meaning I was not giving exact boundaries. Aren't you the same guy who claims a guy has to take a taxi to get to the end of the block in Cedar-Riverside because it's so dangerous there? Just based on that I'm going to find it very difficult to take anything you say seriously. That being said, why don't you state the five most dangerous blocks in the city in your humble opinion?

Slig, sorry I misread your post. I read it again and it is clear that you were making a distinction between North Loop and North, which does seem to be an area the OP might not fully grasp. I believe you did use the quotes correctly, but not paticuarlly well. You could have clarified the difference between those areas without tacking on the stereotype of north == bad. You tend to be quick to point out things you disagree with, so don't go all crybaby if somebody takes issue with your use of "bad".

Yeah, I see now I should dumb down my posts so people don't jump all over it. The end result is another hijacked topic, guaranteed the original post is thinking WTF.
