You'll miss the Oregon mountains. Other than that climate-wise it is similar, although our winter is harsher. There is plenty of outdoor stuff to do here.

I'll be the first one to admit my own bias here, but I actually think the areas in and around Victory Memorial Parkway (and/or Theo Wirth parkway) might be perfect for you - besides there being a lot of great neighborhoods in and around these areas, North Memorial is basically on the intersection of Victory Memorial and Theo Wirth Parkways. Not only could your wife potentially walk and/or bike to work everyday, you would be within extremely easy access to Theo Wirth parkway and park areas (and chain of lakes to the south of that), and, if you live in Victory, you would have access to all the trails headed east to the Mississippi as well. Make sure to check the area out and Direct Message me if you have any questions-

There are only a couple months left until we move to Minneapolis, but it sounds like there will be enough outdoor activities for us to do. My wife is going to call some of the hospitals in Minneapolis and see if there are any RN openings available.
When we are not working we do enjoy going out to breweries. Oregon is famous for its amount of breweries. Are there any good breweries in and around Minneapolis?

There are some microbreweries and a fair number of home brewers here.

I do agree that the NW tip of Minneapols/Robbinsdale close to the parkway could be a good fit for you. It's close to one major hospital and also convenient to others in Fridley, Mpls and one opening in Maple Grove in 2010. She could also get to Edina and St Paul quickly if her hours don't coincide with rush hour. Here you'd be close to the ground rounds and it does go to the Mississippi River, not sure how far north it goes. It covers a lot of miles.
Another thought is Maple Grove close to the new hospital, the downside is it's further out and not as convenient to the other area hospitals. Elm Creek Park is a nice recreation area and the trails connect for quite a distance.

Minneapolis is nationally regarded as having one of the best bicycle -path systems in the United States. Minneapolis is a beatiful city with a strong skyline, thick mature trees, the Mississippi, 10 lakes, and miles of trails. As far as kayaking, but I'm sure you would have a great time doing that either on the lakes or Mississippi, or heading to northern Minnesota for a vacation to the Boundary Waters for some of the best kayaking in the world.
Suburbs are bland. Like every suburb. But many of them are great, as well as unique in their own right. very few are really "bad" The Minneapolis-St Paul International Airport is somewhere around the 8 or 9 busiest airport in the USA, and around 17 18 in the world. The metro area is home to a handfuld of fortune 500 companies and dozens of great universities. the Twin Cities are a sophisticated, clean, respectable, trendy, artistic, modern, entertaining, hot in the summer, cold in the winter. Not to mention, the entire state of Minnesota is beautiful, from the North shore, to bluff country, to the 16,000 lakes.

At this point we will have to come out to Minneapolis to look for a nice area to rent. The area we are going to settle will depend a lot on where my wife is going to be working. I am looking forward discovering all these trails and ice skating on the lakes during winter time. I was born in Holland and do miss the ice skating on natural ice.
Can somebody maybe posts some pictures from and around Minneapolis? I am interested in seeing some of the area.

My wife was thinking about working at the Unity Hospital in Fridley. Does anyone know if this is a good area? If it is a rough neighborhood, working in an ER can be quite dangerous...
