Default Driving fees in Minnesota...are they really high?

I read an article about how crazy/high the taxes are in Minnesota and how the driving license (dl) process is
Driving in Minnesota Sucks | Bill Roehl

Do you have to renew your dl every year? Insurance minimun is very high in MN?

Thanks,

Bit of and extreme opinion on your link you posted if you ask me.

You don't renew DL every year. It is every 6 years and I think it is around $20. I just renewed, and can't rember the exact fee, but it is less than $30.

You do have to pay for your vehicle registration every year. It does vary on value of your car. If your car is over 10 years old the fee is around $30. If it is brand new you could be looking at $300 or more depending on just how nice it is. The wheel tax is for some counties, but not all and it is nominal.

The fees were higher than they are now. Former governer Jesse Ventura lowered the fees a great deal, but they are creeping up again.

There are states where the fees are less, but there are some state where they are way higher such as Nebraska where they really get you.

In a nutshell if you have a newer car, the fees are higher. If you have an old car, they are pretty cheap. I have an 04 F150 and they run about $150 this year. Oh, they do go down each year with the value.

Some states have emissions tests and inspections required on a periodic basis. We used to have emissions tests in the metro, but that is no longer required. There is no saftey inspection either. Do be aware that you can and likely will be stopped for obvious repair issues such as tail lights not working, burnt out headlights etc.

Thank you!
I will have a new car 2008. Is there any web page where I can see the vehicle registration fee.
When you move from another state, For how long can you be driving with the DL from another State?

Thank you again,
MG
