Summer Camps - Suggestions
This summer will be our first few months in the Twin Cities and we need to enroll our kids 6 and 10 in summer camps. I will be working downtown and my spouse's work may vary so I would ideally like something near work for camp. I do however want a good quality camp at a reasonable price that will keep their interests. In past years they have enjoyed gymnastics, science and dance. I was thinking of the YMCA as it is well located downtown, but am cautious as to the quality of care/programs. I would appreciate your comments, warnings, experiences.

Check out the day camps offered by the U of M. Tons of different activities for them to choose from: intellectual, physical, outdoors, indoors. Drop off is at the St. Paul campus, between the two downtowns. I think these were some of our kids' favorites. Least favorite: Smore Fun Program at St Paul city rec. department. Not familiar with the Y's programs.

The Science Museum has summer camps for kids, downtown St. Paul though.

The best camp I ever went to was Kichi Yapi with the YMCA. It's locatated somewhere in the far southwestern metro. They have busing fromall the area YMCAs as well as some parks with rec centers. It was an awesome experience for me. I think it goes from kindergarden through 5th grade.
I also went to camps at both the science museum (the old one) and the McPhail (the old one) and thought they were fantastic.

We've done a camp at Springbrook Nature Center on Fridley, it's a great camp and you can do all day by signing up for two different camps.

It seems the summer camps I have seen are a bit pricey when considering the cost over the entire summer. What do most parents do with their children during the summer? I have been looking at the Y downtown, but was hoping someone could comment as to their program.
