It's not overly loud there, but there is frequent bus and car traffic on 24th if that's a concern. I wouldn't say that Calhoun is THAT crowded. It's certainly possible to run there. I run 2-3 lakes almost every day in a group of 10-12 people at around 3 in the afternoon, and getting around the people is really not that big of a deal. Just don't expect to be able to whip down the bike path at 20 mph on a Saturday afternoon.

True, it really depends on the day and time. In my experience on running on Calhoun I've been frustrated numerous times by having to make a sudden sharp movement to get around somebody or stop competely because people are blocking the path but there have been times where it has been relatively sparse as well. Completely forget getting a healthy run on weekends when the weather is nice though. Also, try comparing the human traffic level on Calhoun and any time to that of Nokomis, the difference is night and day.
Back to Minnehaha Pkwy, I believe most of the housing along it is single family houses but you may be able to find apartment housing out towards Hiawatha and maybe near 35W. I haven't seen anything really obvious in my experience though, unless it was a larger home converted into a duplex or multi-housing similar to what you'd find around Uptown.

Would you say that there are other nice areas to go for a run in/near Uptown? I live in Toronto and my favourite place to run is in this huge, beautiful cemetery. Not much traffic to contend with there, human or otherwise. I also like that you don't have to deal with intersections, cars, etc.
I don't think the Minnehaha Pkwy area will work out. I haven't seen any apartment listings for that area and I need a decently priced place that is close to the bus line to the U, groceries, etc.

The entrance to Lakewood Cemetery - also a "huge, beautiful cemetery" - is at Hennepin and 36th. If you like big traditional cemeteries you'll definitely want to check it out.
There's also the Midtown Greenway - I don't run, but that wouldn't be as busy as around the lakes.

My favorite place to run near uptown was Lake of the Isles which is seperated by Calhoun from W Lake St. Harriet also isn't bad during non-peak hours.

Thanks! Do people tend to run in this cemetery, as far as you know? (i.e., have you seen joggers in it)?
I'll look up the Midtown Greenway..

I'll certainly check it out. The only prob is that I might not be able to avoid running at peak hours, which I'm assuming are evenings and weekends.

Lake of the Isles is never going to be too crowded. A lot less people spend time around Isles than Calhoun or Harriet. I think this is mostly because Isles doesn't have any beaches.

Now that you mention it, I can't remember if I've seen actual joggers or not; unfortunately it's one of those (all too common) cemeteries that has all sorts of bans (no bike riding, for one) but their website doesn't specifically call out jogging.
