Apartment building recommendations in Uptown?
I am moving to Minneapolis in September and I would like to have a list of properties that I can check for availability and try to make appointments to see in August. My upper limit is $700 for a one bedroom and I'm hoping to find something in Uptown, east of Lyndale, south of Franklin, north of 36th. So...I'm just wondering if anyone has any recommendations in terms of apartment buildings or property managers? I'm looking for something quiet, quaint, well-maintained, cute...
Any other suggestions re:finding a place to live in Uptown?
Thanks!!

What happened to northeast? I see your post now, I guess it depends on what you're looking for. The main difference between Northeast and Uptown is the bustle factor. Uptown is dense and there are people everywhere and most hours of the day. Northeast is much more laid back.

I'm still considering Northeast but I still don't have a good sense of where the "nicer" areas are. Someone recommended near the Quarry but I looked and that neighbourhood doesn't seem that appealing. I really want to be somewhere that is nice to walk around and also to jog because I run a lot in the summer. If you have a specific area of Northeast you recommend, then let me know. The only thing I want to avoid is being too close to the U because I don't want to be in an environment that has a lot of undergrads.

For jogging, biking or roller blading, I'd suggest being close to the lakes district (especially Calhoun, Harriet, Isles), but Nokomis/Minnehaha Pkwy is also ok, and if you looked into the Seward neighborhood, you'd be close to the Mississippi River, which has trails along both sides of the river. The downtown riverfront also is nice, but there's not as many jogging trails/bike paths up in NE Mpls.
One question, though: Why east of Lyndale?

Also, what kind of jogging are you into? I don't think Lake Calhoun is the ideal place from an excercise standpoint since you'll constantly be slowed down by human trafficjams. However, Calhoun is great for jogging if your main concern is showing yourself off or your well groomed showdog, that seems to be the main motivation for the most people there
Lake Harriet is a bit less congested but at times can get nearly as bad as Calhoun. Lake of the Isles is probably your best bet on that side of town. I've found that Nokomis, Minnehaha Pkwy and Minnehaha Park/Fort Snelling areas are much quieter and more ideal for getting exercise. Along the Mississippi River on the west bank is great for jogging too.

I wondered about the east of Lyndale thing, too, unless it's for cost reasons. The two neighborhoods you're looking at east of Lyndale are technically called Lyndale (north of 36th to Lake) and Whittier (north of Lake). They're both fine neighborhoods, but - depending on who you ask - not really considered Uptown.
You should be able to find something in the more core neighborhoods of Uptown for less than $700, although you will have more options east of Lyndale.

In Uptown check out Gremar Classic Apartments - my wife used to live in the building on 24th & Dupont (brick building, blue fire escape). Nice, bright, well-maintained apartments with great property management- very walkable area near Lake of the Isles. This would technically qualify as the "Wedge"/ Lowry Hill East. It's not overly loud there, but there is frequent bus and car traffic on 24th if that's a concern. From 2004- 2007, her rent for a 2 bed was $735 (apts on the back side are recommended as they have the decks).

Thanks! Can you tell me more about Seward?

Hmmm, well I definitely do not find human traffic jams appealing. Are there a lot of apartments close by to Minnehaha Pkwy? I'll look into it.
