If you are actually suggesting that MPLS people don't incessantly promote their city, you have gone absolutely certifiably nuts. I have never been to a big city whose populace yaps harder than those in Minneapolis.

I have had at least a handful of strangers squeeze the following facts into rather unrelated conversation.

- St. Paul has the greatest, densest population of hmongs
- Minneapolis has the biggest population of Somalians
- Minneapolis has the 2nd most "theaters" per capita
- Amy Adams started her career in Minnesota

Basically, every Minnesota resident memorizes to heart the Chamber of Commerce tourist book and practically pisses their pants in excitement at any opportunity to recite it to someone from a different state.

Madison - if you like German restaurant / Bar you have to go to Essen House = very good.

Overall I would say very similar but because I would classify Madison as more of a college town the people are a bit more outgoing in my experiences. Halloween is a bit nuts in Madison from what I've heard, with things like violence and public drunkeness. I've never been there at that time to experience first hand, so can't say for sure. Other then that I'd say that they are comparable depends mostly if you prefer more of a big city feel or a slightly smaller city feel. But as mentioned earlier if you crave the big city you are only 2.5 hrs from Chicago so you can go visit at any time. I've personally often considered moving to Madison but the wife hasn't been there and is against it That's not the end of the world though cause nothign wrong with Minneapolis for me either

She is probably related to the Johnson's or the Smith's. All I know is the phone book is full of Adam's.

I think he is saying it is this person: Amy Adams - AskMen.com I have never heard of seen her before.
But that doesn't matter: I feel like I am going to "**** in my pants with excitement" knowing that I can add this to my Chamber of Commerce hand book. Just wait till I get a chance to talk with an out-of-stater!!!

I am pretty sure it's not http://www.facebook.com/people/Amy-Adams/1359932755

I personally am prouder that Lizz Winstead is from Minneapolis than Amy Adams. I'd take biting political humor of beauty any day.

Having been born and raised in the Madison area for 20 years, and moving to the TC, and living here for 3, I can tell you that the differences aren't THAT substantial, apart from the obvious (size, traffic, etc)..

One thing I will comment about Madisonians, is that they are VERY, VERY, VERRRRRRYY proud of their city. It always seemed to me to be the liberal mecca of the midwest... Very very forward about politics, and people are extremely concerned about keeping their city clean and quaint, yet with the amenities that you wouldn't find in other cities of its size. That being said, its a great place to live, and I love going there to visit old friends, and my parents.

Reasons I moved? Aside from need of a change of scenery (and getting at least arms length distance away from my parents), the "Dane County Psycho Liberals" (as my friends and I liked to call them), really got obnoxious at times. Its a very political city, and any viewpoint that hints SLIGHTLY to the right, typically is shunned upon. Wasn't a fan of that.
I also notice many people are commenting on its close proximity to Chicago. I greatly enjoyed this as well when I lived there, however, now that I live in the cities, I notice something- I'm not as enthused when I go to visit Chicago. Just about all of the shopping and activities (with exception to nightclubs, and the spectacular museums Chicago has to offer), is all available here in the cities... Plus, you don't have to pay tolls to get there !

As far as people go... seems the same to me. When I moved here, I fit right in. People probably thought I was MN born and raised. Truly two very very comparable areas.
