Default Do you listen to Minnesota Public Radio?

Are you a regular listener, or otherwise, of Minnesota Public Radio? Is there a huge MPR type culture in the TC Metro?

I listen to a mix of radio stations, but I'd have to say that MPR is my favorite--especially shows like Mid-Morning, Mid-day, plus Fresh Air and This American Life. I also frequent their web-site to listen to archived shows.

I personally like MPR and especially The Current when I want some music. From my experience there are a lot of MPR lovers in the area but my perception could be off. My parents had it on while I was growing up, my professors in college listened to it and discussed it in class and my current and previous jobs had it on pretty much the entire day. Some people might blame this on a liberal environment. I was raised in a liberal household, went to public school/university, worked for a DFL senator and now work for a nonprofit. I tend to think the people that introduced me to MPR were more community/civic minded and valued an alternative source of news. Anyways, MPR programming is great and they also do some pretty top notch blogging.

I don't know if this is fair, but when I hear someone listens to MPR or NPR I automatically have more respect for them. My parents always have MPR on, and I'm a big fan. The current is really sweet too.
Public Radio/Television rocks in general.

A lot of people I know listen to MPR.

While I rarely listen to the MPR talk shows, The Current is literally ALWAYS on in my car.

MPR is one of the biggest public radio organizations, and it didn't get there without having a huge local radio base. I've listened to many MPR programs even living in other cities, as MPR-produced programs are regular features on many NPR stations across the country.

I think everywhere has its NPR listeners, more in some circles than others, of course (I run with an NPR-kind-of-crowd, I think) but I do agree with the perception that Minnesota has a higher percentage of public radio listeners than many places.

#44 Public Radio « Stuff White People Like

In all seriousness though, MPR is pretty solid as far as public radio goes- I appreciate having an outlet for local political discussion that isn't done "talking head"-style. I'll admit, I'm more of a KFAN guy myself, but MPR is a good second option when the KFAN hosts get too irritating.

I used to listen to MPR off and on when I lived in the Twin Cities, but I don't have a even working radio in my car right now.
