Even the burbs here are starting to come into their own.
We're talking about AV here. I don't disagree that if you're in the suburbs of Eden Prarie or Woodbury or Minnetonka, you have better choices.

That's because even the Dutch are too cheap to "go Dutch" (a phrase whose roots trace back to derogatory expressions used by the british to joke about the stinginess of Dutch people). Considering the significant Dutch heritage/ influence in Iowa- and personally having known a number of Dutch persons from Iowa which includes my sister-in-law- I'm not all that surprised by your statement .

Ha, my wife comes from an Iowa family with a 100% Dutch heritage and your comment rings completely true for me. What's funny is that her family members call themselves cheap and mean it as a complement!

At the same time, there are only two cities in Iowa that have a strong Dutch presence, Orange City and Pella (and both cities have yearly tulip festivals to prove it). As far as demographics go, Iowa is really not much different than Minnesota and Wisconsin--seems to be mostly a mix of German, British, and Irish backgrounds.

Don't let all this Dutch talk make you think that AV needs a Dutch restaurant because I don't think that Pannekoeken Huis restaurant is still in business.

There is still one over by Maplewood Mall--the sign is still there anyway. I saw that the other day and was really surprised. I was on the highway so I couldn't tell if it was open or not.

Not many Dutch in IC. Local natives are Irish, German, Bohemien. The high earners I referred to are the University, Hospital, Med School types. They are from all over the world. In spite, they don't support high end restaurants.
