Default commute from Uptown to downtown St. Paul?

I'm relocating to the cities for work at the beginning of July and need some advice on commute times.

I have friends who live in Uptown and from the research I've done, it looks like that would be the perfect neighborhood for me (mid-20s, walkable, lakes, entertainment). But I will be working in downtown St. Paul, so will that be a crazy commute during rush hour? I enjoy driving, but don't want to spend and hour in the car each day.

Thanks for any help you can give!

Can't comment on driving time so much, but I will toss out that routes 21 and 53 of Metro Transit's bus service run from Uptown to Downtown St. Paul. That trip can take from 40 minutes to over an hour depending on traffic / time of day. Will your employer be providing some kind of parking for you? If not, it can get pretty expensive so the bus might be a good option.

if you plan on driving, that will put you on Interstate 94 in the 94/35W interchange area. many times its NOT an enjoyable area during rushour. I can see it taking you a half an hour - 45 minutes to reach your destination.

It wouldn't be the end of the world, especially if you rode the bus. Either way you're probably looking at around a 40 minute commute and on the bus you can relax and read the paper or get some work done on your laptop, plus you won't have to worry about parking.
