Want a really good burger?
Went to a place called Smash Burger on the recommendation of a friend. If i recall it was in Columbia Heights or that neck of the woods at least. Was a very very good place to have a good burger and fries.
Slightly greasy and juicy, Good flavor I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking to try a new place.
Go check it out

Smashburger is on 3900 Silver Lake Rd in St Anthony. I recently read a mostly positive review about it.

Smashburger is opening two more this year here in the Cities.
One in Golden valley and the other in Roseville. One opens in June (if I remember correctly) and the other in September. I just can not remember which one opens when.
They actually have great burgers, a little pricey though.

Oh goody just what we need in the area another chain burger place. We don't have very many of those around here do we ? You know the food maybe fine but the places real claim to fame is that the food is safe. By safe I mean the food in St. Anthony is just like the food in GV or Omaha for that matter.
Where is people sense of adventure. How about trying the
Band Box, Chatterbox, Annie's Parlour, Lions Tap, King's Place, Casper and Runyon's Nook, Matt's, The Bulldog, or any one of the multiple local place in this area.
What's the worst that happen you have a horrible experience and you go on the internet and tell everyone how bad it was.
Or you might find a hidden little jem in your own neck of the woods. That is locally owned and operated by people that have a stake in your community.

A couple new burger joints are not going to ruin the world for locally owned shops. Uniformity, and recognition are two things that make the franchise concept work. Apparently a lot of people like to know what to expect when the go out. They want it close by, and fast, and cheap too. This is the world we live in. There is also room for mom and pop joints too and many people prefer them. I like the small shops myself, but I will say there is not always one to pick that is close depending where you live. In some locations, land development is all driven by corporate developers which makes it more difficult for one shop bob to partcipate.
Older burbs like White Bear Lake seem to have more of the mom and pop shops as do the core cities. Newer burbs like Woodbury seem to be almost exclusively chains.
I am actually looking for a good burger joint in the Mahtomedi, White Bear Lake, Maplewood area. Have not found one yet, but I have found a really a couple Italian places that are very good and a very good steak house.
