My Dad's from Edina (Indian Hills area) and I currently live in Chicago- well familiar with the Chicago metro North Shore area in question (Glencoe, etc). There is abosolutely no comparison...
For example, the median household income in Edina is about $78K. Firmly, staunchly upper middle class with a number of "upper tier" areas housing the real financial outliers.
In Winnetka, the median household income is over $275,000 with almost 30% of households having an income over $500,000. It's a strange, strange thing when everyone in the local highschool knows at least a few kids with unlimited access to private jet aircraft. Still, driving through one or the other (Edina or Winnetka) while there are some differences in architecture, you still get the same general "feeling" that you get whenever you're in the upper-tier enclave of any given metro area.

Not disputing the facts. Guessing there is a shiek somewhere that makes glenco seem like watts, but what really is the point of going there?

i like the newer money of edina. those are 'estates' not just 'big homes'.. Edina has a lot of big houses in woods, with small properties.. In Medina, and Orono, there are even larger homes on much bigger lots, you know, McMansions

I second that! I would add Hinsdale, Wilmette, Glenview, Glencoe, Naperville, Clarendon Hills, Highland Park, Lake Bluff, Northbrook, and River Forest. (Not really snobby to people who live in these towns, but snobby to outsiders.)

I was about to mention this point myself Slig- it's curious that whenever this subject is brought up, people often don't talk about the neighborhoods/ towns/ suburbs around Lake Minnetonka- I came into the cities on Hwy 7 today, whenever driving through this area the highway is chock full of high end luxury sedans, convertible sports cars, etc.- if there were palm trees lining the highway, you'd think you were in Beverly Hills.
